This is very good, and the balance of detail and Shikaku's thoughts was very smooth, something I struggle with. I offer only this as constructive criticism: though you don't necessarily need it, per say, it is nice if you include some background detail for the setting. Again, this is not necessarily, but it makes it easier for the reader to picture the scene in their mind. Again, great job and I look forward to reading more of your stories.

I liked your view of the shadow bind. I guess it makes sense, because you're effectively strangling the victim.
I also like the bit about Shikaku closing his eyes, it seems very like (the little bits) we've seen of him. But I'm not entirely sure the Kagemane no Jutsu would force them to do it, the people Shikamaru used it on seemed to have control of their facial expressions.

That makes perfect sense that shadow bind would work like that. The more I think about it and the more I read, really those Naras should not be allowed in ANBU, yikes.
