This is an incredibly original take on the story. I commend you! It's a unique setting and very interesting. I would second Stefanie Bean's advice about paralleling events from the show too closely; what's important is the spirit of the thing. But I think this could even be expanded. I like the point of view; very original. There are far too many stories which just retell the tale from a main character's pov. Bravo.

I can't say a single word, but I must take a review to this excellent story. This is the best modern day fic what I ever read, and the best AU too! Thank you to write it!

I think this is a really unique idea and it is very well written. I'm applauding right now, you just can't tell. I really like how you portrayed Erik.
By the way, I love trench coats, too!

What a wrenching story, especially if the reader knows a little of the background. This has got to be the most unique AU setting of a Phantom story I've ever seen.

I like how the narrative takes the point of view of the American captain, rather than showing Erik or his love interest's POV. It gives a fresh perspective. Also refreshing is that the narrator has more on his mind than romance - like survival and integrity.

While this story is IMO effective, there is one thing. I don't think it's necessary to use all the "Phantomy" elements exactly as they were in the movie (ring, gondola, similar phrases.) One of the advantages of an AU is being able to wiggle out of canon.

I wouldn't be discouraged by no reviews; there's not a lot of reward for highly individualistic, non-standard stories.
