abuseAn interesting take on a great story. The scene between Quote and Curly made me tear up a little. Great characterization of Quote, and Curly's personality matches up with the game counterpart perfectly. I like some of the little touches you added to the characters (Quote's last name, Sue's father building Quote and Curly, Itoh being a runner, etc..)

All in all, nice job. The one part I disliked was the way you placed things together at the ends. I think it would have been much more emotional if the scene between Quote and Curly (And then the scene where it shows their activation) had been at the very end instead of almost the end.

abuseYou have achieved the rank of 'person who made my eyes tear up'. NOOES! Quote and Curly have died. And they can't retry. That was an amazing ending to an amazing fic. In honor of this, I Nemesis-ed the Doctor more mercilessly than usual. But this really was good. The only fault I could find was in Quote's first line, when he says "What's yours" after Curly already has said her name. Ah well. I guess its just him being his little old fuzz-headed self. ^_^

FAVE'D!

abuseI played the game, and I did the good ending in the fastest time needed. I played the game over and over. Something about the story made me come back to review it over and over. Sacred Grounds, in particular, was the part that I played repeatedly. At least onehundred times, the first fifty just to finish it without dying.

Once I became part of this community, I really just read the stories that my sister had bookmarked. They were great, sure, but I had no real attachment to the characters, it felt like picking up a book, flipping to page, I dunno... Page fifty, and reading untill the very near end, then stopping. I hated the feelings I had after the story, even if reading it was great, and it was always wonderful to be reading them.

Then, I went to the home site, and saw the section marked "video games". I knew how large a fanbase Cave Story has, and was certain there'd be some stories. I was right, and this is a shining achievement that will stand out above nearly anything and everything I have/will read from this site. You said at the beginning that it was a dream, and you went on to say that "people say my dreams bring out the best in my stories" Or something of the sort. I finished this in one sitting (sorta). I have only this to say: You were right. I see nothing wrong with it, it's a masterpiece, in my eyes...

abuseGah! I don't know how I missed Date/Quote trying to rape Curly on my first read-through. That was kind of disturbing, but the part where the Doctor figured out he was lacking some necessary hardware, in other words "he's forgotten that his body isn't as human as before", was somewhat brilliant. Nice work bringing up Tantalus as well, that's a myth that everybody's heard and can remember.

abuseNice, quite nice. Wish Sue didn't die though, she's one of my favorite characters. Just me though. I have my own Cave Story fic (Soldier from the Surface), which is pretty dark, so I didn't mind how depressing this one was.

I love how the Doctor is angry because Quote's voice makes him sound immature >_<

Priceless.

abuseMy my, that was an amazingly written story... The most impressive part becomes of the fact that I could basically see everything that happened as I read - a true sign of a legendary work.

I had decided to read something on a whim, but I am very glad that I decided to read this. I truely wish I had your skill for weaving a tale of this magnitude.

My only real complaints are of those of personal opinion - nothing that should (or probably would, for that matter) affect the way you write.

With the way you left that last line, it seems as if this story should deserve a sequel.

I'd wish you luck in anything else you will write, but I believe you don't need it at all.

abuseStill, the ending was perfect. The bit with the two awakening to meet one another was a tad cliché, but it made me smile nontheless, and I appreciate the break from the rest of the story, myself.

abuseShit. I feel like a giant softy after reading this. It's fantastically written, detailed, engaging, and entertaining, but...

It's almost too dark for my tastes. It leaves a kind of bitter aftertaste in my head thinking about it. I suppose that's my fondness of the Mimigas and my bitter hatred of the word 'rape' used again and again. Still, I feel compelled to read more than the two chapters I already have.

Hmm.

abuseHeya! Time to review this ficcy, eh? Hee hee. Anyway, I liked it! The only thing I noticed is that you kinda forgot Balrog. That's okay, though, cause I've kinda left him out in my stories, including ones I'm still plotting anyway. (And it's going to be longer than five chapters, I'll say that now. Hee hee) Well, that's it for this fic. Review ya later!

abuseWow...I'm impressed. This piece was written beautifully and worded with such desribtion...I'm just speechless. I am amazed that no one has reviewed such a good story yet? You have a talent, and sure know how to use it. Keep writing and keep up the good work. Hope you place another installment in soon, I am eager to feast my eyes on more chapters for the future.

God Bless
