TheSeer 2006-04-30 . chapter 1I'd never heard of Road Song until I saw your story. People don't usually review stories for fandoms they aren't familiar with - which is why my two Onmyou Taisenki stories have one review between them. I, too, have posted a fic and realized it's the first one in the fandom. Most people don't read because they haven't heard of it, and the rest don't find it because it's lost in the Misc. So I thought I'd review you. Your story didn't require any knowledge that I couldn't get from the plot blurb I found when I Googled Road Song.
It's a nice little fic. It does a good job of executing the purpose of a vignette - to show a single moment, a tiny slice of the characters' lives, and make the reader feel its importance. It is kind of angsty, but it's not the "waah my life is horrible, aren't I pitiful?" kind of angst. Most of the emotional impact comes from the fact that the reader knows the whole situation is unnecessary, and the characters don't. It's much more effective that way. One quick thing: in the eigth paragraph, it reads "Even though they where legal related," and it should say, "Even though they were legally related."
[unsubtle hint] Incidentally, if you wanted to give me a return review, "Oblivious" would work better than "Scared of the Dark" for someone who hasn't seen any Onmyou Taisenki. Or you could just read the Naruto stuff. [/unsubtle hint] |
