Loving Willoughby and yet hating what he had done to her and what he really was. Feeling deeply fond of Brandon and yet wishing he was the man she really desired. Wonderful, wonderful stuff. I have always thought that Brandon and Marianne's journey to love was a long one (I'm actually writing a fic right now on it, but now that I read yours, I don't like mine half so much). I think you've done a great job here, capturing Brandon's adoration for Marianne, and yet his vulnerability and his hopeless desire for her love. I think it's nice that you've made Marianne a sympathetic character, who knows that she doesn't love Brandon and yet is somehow not content with that (although she doesn't know how to change it). I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how their relationship progresses! |
