I was really getting into the concept of them hooking back up; but as disappointing as it is to have their reunion spoiled, it's an excellent way for the story to evolve.

Lemme think now... I like everything about your Final Fantasy world - the fact that Black Mage City is both modern and fits the fantasy genre, the elite teams, all the names you use for the OC's (they are your OC's, right?!): Maiju, Min, Gin, Tabor, Lykaios, Sonia, Desirée, Sonia, Palmyra, Caitlin, Shiro... Now all you need is a Moogle. ^_^
Awesome story, bud! Now you just have to stop using the word "said" so much and maybe look over the older chapters.
