I loved it! I loved the double POV aspect of it, and you captured Kaya and Okita beautifully! It was amazing! Thank you so much for creating this work!
In addition, I liked how you put them in the Bakumatsu. It was a great setting!
Anyways, it's a good thing you took liberties with how they met, because...well...(looks away guiltily) I haven't really decided that (and they meet in two of my fics, so I have to make up two different meetings).

I love how they each want to approach each other...and the repetition of 'maybe'...and the references to smiling...and then that end line...gosh, it's so good.

Wow! I've never seen a two-pov fic pulled off so neatly. Great, great work. The repitition was just enough to drive the whole thing home, and not too much as to be annoying.
I like the difference in their thoughts, too. Kaya's is a little more centered, and Okita's seems more sporadic, desperate.
I can just see the moment when he looks up and their eyes meet...
Very well done.
Now where's that Tsu/Shishio fic?

interesting. nice job rendering two voices in a 100 word ficlet. and i like the idea of au-ing an au to return it to cannon. i can't say much more, as i'm not yet familiar with the original fic... but i like this...
