Kaoru Shimitsu 2009-11-02 . chapter 1I don't make a habit of reviewing a lot of Ranma stories nowadays, the few I do read are separated by long stretches of time... but this one was in a list of a fan of mine, and the premise sounded interesting enough.
What I can say is that this story is a rousing good read. It has the nuance and tenor of some of the Ranma-fiction greats and sure does bring back some strong nostalgia for an old guard such as myself.
The content and the mix with traditional spirit walks melds well with the Ranmaverse and it retains a goodly amount of humor while also presenting Ranma with a heavy series of choices and while it may make a few Fanon mistakes, they are not bad mistakes in particular to make; merely the author's interpreted understanding of the series, which speaks more to an intuition of understanding rather than a literalism that some canon advocates tend to swarm around.
Imagination is the name of the game, and while the author also does fall occassionally into he/she said, overall this is avoided in favor of some warm and vivid details that certainly paint the story process deeply into the mind, capturing an essence that I myself attempt to convey to the reader on a frequent basis; animation in reading.
For the author, I give a four and three quarters out of five stars... not perfect, but close enough. |
Nachoman1 2008-09-07 . chapter 1Whoa, fabulous! I guess such would be the easiest way for Ranma to accept the curse: to become enamoured with an unborn girl who could come out of "his" womb. |
Nitpicker 2008-02-14 . chapter 1 As much as I enjoyed the story I can't get over the disquieting fact that Coyote is primarily known as a *trickster* god...and that all he tells Ranma could be a part of a huge practical joke... |
jgkitarel 2007-11-25 . chapter 1Hmm, very interesting. Using an American michief spirit to guide Ranma into the realization that everything has consequeces.
I can see where this is going. |
Chinangel 2007-08-05 . chapter 1Ranma has a little girl! Aw so cute! |
 Rose1948 2007-06-21 . chapter 1Charmingly delightful. |
Tai Khan 2007-05-15 . chapter 1Overall, not too bad.
Major drawback...far too concentrated on Akane, unstated indication that to be cured would end in tragedy, and complete disregard of other potential life partners OTHER than Akane. |
L.A. Riverburn 2007-05-15 . chapter 1I can't say anything bad about this at all. at times, it is a bit vague, but that isn't bad, it keeps my interest. but at times it is so cute, so adorable. the little redheaded blue eyed girl was so sweet.
I love every word, every letter of it. Thank you for writing this excelent story. |
Lana Atkins 2007-04-16 . chapter 1Truly a beautiful story, enjoyed it very much. :) |
Tain Shari 2006-09-19 . chapter 1A very nice, short piece |
 LiYinBlake 2006-08-21 . chapter 1Great story. |
 Natalie-E-G 2006-08-12 . chapter 1Delightful.
“Mama no baka!” Who is the father? She has features so she has already chosen him. |
deathgeonous 2006-08-12 . chapter 1Interesting. I look foward to reading the sequil, which I will now. |
Kirinin 2006-07-22 . chapter 1My goodness, what a find! Your story is so delightful... between Coyote (a figure I am familiar with and love) and the idea of the faceless children, I was enchanted. I especially loved the detail about the children handing Akane her mallet. How cool is that?
I also like that you've left this story rather open-ended. We don't know exactly what's going to happen with Ranma; we just know he's going to be a bit more careful and conscious in the future.
The only thing that struck me as slightly odd in Coyote's explanation of the Rules of the Walk is the following... if the children only attain specific features when Akane has chosen her partner, why is it that Ranma's little girl becomes clear when Ranma has NOT found a husband? It may be that you are implying that Ranma already has chosen the male Akane, but if so this is a bit unclear.
Still... wow. Original and masterfully done. :) |
Silver Warrior 2006-07-06 . chapter 1that was funny. And cute! |
