Okay, this is a reply to Saggit's comment since I couldn't email him/her.
1) You were wondering why Soun and Genma would suddenly give up after all those years of trying the tie the knot between Ranma and Akane. Well, I figured since they're old-fashioned enough to arrange marriage, don't you think they would want their children to get married at a young age. In this fic, Akane is already 18, and that's way past the traditional Japanese marriage age (which I think is about 15-17).
2) Why Ranma asked his mom about love, did he want to commit seppuku? Well, I was trying to put a nicer side of Nodoka (no offense to anyone, but I find her definition of "manly" intimidating) since I needed female advice there, and I figured, Cologne's too old, so Nodoka!
3) OOC? Well, it's unusually hard for an author to write a short, WAFFY fic without somehow changing the characters' personalities a bit. When writing a continuos fanfic, it's a lot easier to gradually shift Takahashi's action manga toward a romance novel. But in short fanfics, it's hard to develop the character's feelings and not do a tad too much. Among all the WAFFY fanfics I've read (around 300 to 400), I've only read one, "A tribute to 'Feh'" by Lord Iron-Balls in which the characters are still "in" character throughout most of the fic.
4) Original flavor? When I started writing this, I was going to submit it to my English teacher. But after I've finished it, I thought it's just not me writing about two people who got engaged before they're 18, and by their parents, no less. So I revised it and published it as a Ranma fic.

Ok I will addmit. I'm new here in FFnet Ranma Directory. I only read Games fanfiction so far and because of this I'm reading many and many Ranma fanfictons here in the last days. This fanfiction is very cute, and IMO this Saggit guy/girl is really strange, I read a fanfiction here where Akane is portraied like a psychotic maniac and he/she said that it was a googd story, weeeeellll... I can be wrong but a psychotic Akane is much more OOC than the Akane and Ranma portraied in this story. I agree that things happened too fast but it
was necessary in a short fic like this. CSMars don't bother with others said about your story okay? This was really cute. ^_^

Yep: "saggit, a fanfiction is writing what you want to about characters that are not your own..." I couldn't disagree with that, Yep, and if you've read my remarks on other fanfiction, here, you'll note I defend various works whose authors have departed considerably from canon. The difference is that the essential characters in those pieces remain, seen, more or less, like gems, from different facets: a **-jock-Ryouga can be, in another set of hands, a large, easily hurt, highly vulnerable Ryouga, or a nearly demonic, infuriated Ryouga, because all these aspects are, more or less, imbedded in the original anime/manga, to be developed by different authors. As I said below (and obviously didn't make clear), I felt there's no justification for the Ranma, in here--nothing in his original character that would permit such a question, and nothing in Genma or Soun that would allow them to suddenly reverse the decision of marrying. I'm willing to be convinced otherwise, but only by a specific piece of fiction: in other words, the author's work has to do the job of changing my mind by building events and introspective thought processes that lead me to believe in this Ranma, this Genma, this Soun. Where did Ranma suddenly acquire the ability to speak directly? To discuss something he'd normally find as "sissy" as love? To address Nodoka, of all people, on this subject? None of that is explained. One of the main reasons I really enjoy fanfiction is to see how thoughtful, clever writers reconfigure the characters to fit their needs of the moment, but I didn't feel that these people resembled the Ranma 1/2 crew in the slightest. Writing, as you have, that they're "now a few years older" can be a justification for literally any character's complete reversal of conduct under any circumstances--and that's a justification that, with all due respect, I have a difficult time accepting. :)
