abuseBeautiful and bittersweet. I assume that this tale takes place just before Hephaestion's final illnes in Ecbatana. They are both tired and worn out, but their love and friendship shines like a precious gem. Alexander shows great concern for his True Steadfast Friend, and he is right.

It's most poignant to partake of their glorious dreams and plants that we know are not coming true...

All the best wishes, Many thanks for sharing,

abuseSweet. I rarely read such merry fics about them nowadays. Oh poor poor Hephaistion, always bullied. Glad you differed! ^_^

abuseInteresting. So interesting. So many ideas and concepts that I think are so *right*, and make a lot of sense out of that time we saw Alexander with Bagoas. I can almost forgive him for it.

abuseDefinately a story that I love. I felt sad though when Hephaestion felt that he was getting older. It begins to signify the end. Very touching. At the end, when Alexander came drunk, I was a little mad at him. But at least he came. And I was cheering that Bagoas wasn't going to get to pretend to be Hephaestion 15 years ago. :) A great fiction. Keep it up.

abuseWhat a beautiful and sad story! I've read this four times already. I should have commented sooner, but I always found myself just contemplating that this must have been right around the time Hephaistion became ill. There is an unmistakeable pathos in Hephaistion in your story and it really is heartbreaking. Alexander's gentle and tender treatment is so touching - it's so sad the way their story really ended in real life. I'm glad you could write something so tender about this period.

abuseBeautiful history. I liked it a lot. The dialogues between Alex and Heph reveal clearly the love, the deep understanding and the complicity that exists among them . At the same time you go building a type of suspense along the plot that take the reader to think in the circumstances of Heph's death. The history happens in Ecbatana and Heph it is not very well. He says that he is deadly tired. He asks Alex if he will leave him there. He proposes that they get drunk that night. Will it be the beginning of the disease that will kill him already?. Will be on that night that Heph will drink too much, will get sick and won't recover more? I don't know if it was or not intentional of your part but all those details increased to the history a special flavor. I hope that you write much more fics about my favorite couple.

abuseBeautifully written. The pacing and somber tone are meticulous and show the meloncholy mood of Heph. perfectly. Thanks for this!

abuseI love it! Very sweet and elegant. There's one minor historical inaccuracy (Roxane didn't give birth till after Hephaistion's death), but otherwise it felt very true to history, as well as probably was the manner of their relationship towards the end. Fantastic dialogue and I could see it all playing out before my eyes. Thanks for writing!

abuseI had to read this twice to realize that it is meant to make one feel ambivalent. Very nicely done.

abuseI am speechless - this is so wonderful, different, real, bittersweet and lovely! You've captured the different moods of the two of them on that rainy afternoon so well! Alexander is happy, looking to the future, secure in his glory and acomplishment, and Hephaistion is coming down with malaria/typhoid, mourning his lost youth, feeling empty and understanding the transience of it all. Their moments of togetherness are rare, but the love is stronger than ever. We know what is imminent, but they do not - it is so heartbreaking...
It's a very clever touch to have Hephaistion not suddenly prescient about his own death, but rather to feel depressed and philosophical because of coming illness. I can just imagine Alexander going over this afternoon a thousand times after Hephaistion's death, and each time geting a little closer to death himself.
Please write more. Much, much more!

abuseThis is so beautiful - Hephaestion's concern at his age and position and Alexander's love for him very clearly demonstrated. The flowers were a nice touch.
