Exciting! I like your characters and the realistic way in which they handle things.

One thing caught my eye at the beginning - "Normally serene and confident, Bertille seemed abnormally agitated." The 'abnormally' is somewhat redundant; you could just take it out and it would be clearer.

I want to see where you go with this next :D It'd be neat if you actually extended it all the way to the epic length you were telling me about!
