jabarber69 6/26/06 . chapter 5WoW 50 something pages! As always excellent update to and excellent story! Got so lost in the story it kinda of sadden me when I came to the end of this chapter and noticed that I will have to wait for the next update! boho. P.S. you are one hell of a writer, the way you describe feelings, emotions and observations like when you were writing gin pov and her describing ron and mione attitude toward harry was outstanding! Damn I would give anything to be able to write like that! |
Shadow Lighthawk 6/26/06 . chapter 5I *really* enjoyed this chapter. First of all the length was just wonderful. I could really sink my teeth into it. I thinkmy favorite thing about this chapter was the whole coming back to Hogwarts thing. I like that sort of thing anyway, of course, but there's also the reintegration of this new Harry, with new powers and a new outlook, with Hogwarts, which hasn't changed. You did this brilliantly, by the way. There are places where new!Harry reintegrates almost seamlessly - quidditch, for example - and places where I can already see the problems starting to brew. The most obvious problems are the ones close to home - Ron and Hermione. They both have issues, of course. Those issues are going to be many and varied, and the two of them are probably going to really piss me off before too long. I know where the vast majoriy of the problems stem from, though: Harry has moved on, and they haven't. Harry has done a lot of growing up that Ron and Hermione haven't, and it's as simple and as complicated as that. The two of them have gotten complacent, set in their views of the world and of each other and *especially* of Harry. Now that Harry's gone and pulled a one-eighty on them, that comfortable view is going to be shattered, and they'll have to cope. I, for one, am looking forward to it. Ron's problems, I think, are going to be pretty much par for the course with him. I expect him to have problems with Harry's new studiousness, and even more so with Harry's authority in the HA. I'm not inclined to be charitable towards Ron, and I'm betting he heard Harry's warning about no House prejudice or favoritism towards anyone, but thought Harry was saying it just for show and ignored it. He'll probably be shocked and furious when Harry defends a Slytherin against him during the class. I'm expecting a big blow up. I'm also expecting Harry to not cave. I think the new Harry is strong enough to deal with Ron's temper tantrum. I'm more concerned with Hermione. It seems that being a prat is a virus, and she caught it from hanging out with Ron too long. She was being insanely bitchy about Sirius and about Harry's secrets. I expect she's going to be a royal pain in the ass about a whole lot of things. I hope Harry shuts her down when she gets too pushy about Sirius or anything else that Harry wants to keep to himself. The other thing I already see a problem with is Harry's newfound prowess. I get the feeling that Harry is a very powerful, very *talented* wizard when he puts his mind to it. You know what I said earlier about Hermione and Ron's complacency? This is a prime example. Hermione's gotten used to being way better at and more studious about academics. I think she harbors a cetain, very quiet scorn towards the boys. Now that Harry is actually working, now that he's starting to show her up, I know it's going to cause friction between them and resentment from Hermione. As odd as it sounds, I'm kind of looking forward towards that and seeing how Harry handles it. It'll be interesting. Ginny brough something up in that POV bit that made me think. She was talking about Hermione's quest to drag all the details of Sirius' death and Harry's feelings about it out into the open. Ginny hit on some likely explanations, though none of those explanations excuse Hermione's atrocious behavior, which is almost certain to continue. My paranoia suggests a few more, which are all very farfetched. But I know that, whatever her malfunction is, or possibly her agenda, it's going to be a major problem between her and Harry. Speaking of Ginny, I have mixed emotions about her. First of all, it's pretty obvious that you're setting up a relationship for her and Harry. Personally, I hate Harry/Ginny. So watching you do this is a little difficult. On the other hand, you've made it surprisingly bearable. Ginny still annoys me, but definitely not as much as she could, for which I am thankful. However, I do think the Ginny POV was a bit...overdone. Most of it was a rehash of the last two chapters from Ginny's POV, and most of it didn't tell me anything new or that I couldn't have guessed. The bits about Hermione and the trio's friendship were interesting, certainly, but the whole thing could have been much shorter and more streamlined. The other thing about it that bothered me was the, oh, ninety percent sap qoutient. I expect some sap from Ginny, seeing as how she must be part tree from all the pining she seems to do. But there was a lot more than necessary in that POV. Hopefully, if you do another Ginny POV, you'll drain off some of the teenaged sap first. Aside from my bitching, I do like the fact that Harry has a confidant in her, which is, I think, very important for him. And I love how supportive she is. In the absence of his friends' help, Harry needs her more than ever. I really do like how Harry's powers and training are coming along. The practice and the studying Harry does emphasize his changes to me, as well as showcasing his powers. You've done a good job of integrating those powers into the story which helps the story's cohesiveness a lot, as well as making Harry's abilities that much more realistic. I relaly enjoyed this chapter, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next one! |

ChaosKitsune 6/25/06 . chapter 4I have to say this story is well done. Harry is smarter, fit, and slightly more mature. Two nonmagical and useful animagus forms. Nice description of magical theory. Love the character interaction and animal interaction. He's learned a bit about relationships. All you need is several minor problems and a major dilemma and your set. Hope you've got the will to finish because this is now one of my favorites. Good luck. : ) |
