 KelseyMarie-x 2006-07-27 . chapter 1Me again :D
Aww, this one almost made me cry. I think the reason I didn't was because I was laughing at what song just came on ..Dolly Parton...
Anyway...I loved the bit about the chicken dance, that made me laugh, and the bit about her wanting the picture of the stepkiddies was so sweet, it showed her maternal side.

Jilian5 2006-05-25 . chapter 1I loved this because it's so well written and sweet but I hated it because it's sad and Karen and Stan are broken up. So I'm really caught between two worlds right now. Haha, anyway, onto what I know is your favorite part...
"It was how she would always remember him, with his rumpled shirt rolled up to his elbows, the collar wrinkled and creased." - I could just picture this. It's the epitome of the businessman. And then the proceeding paragraph, where Karen would come in and he'd kiss the back of her neck and they'd pretend like she didn't do this everyday...it's so sweet!
"At one time, she had been their world...she’d been Stanley’s world too once upon a time. But things changed, life changed all the time and she had been naive to think that things could stay the same forever. Time had changed things-it had changed Stan and it had changed her-and she wasn’t so sure it was for the better." - That just pretty much sums up exactly how I think Karen felt. The "she'd been Stanley's world too once upon a time" is just so sad...she's still his world, things are just different! Aah!
"I still love you Karen," he whispered..."I know. I love you too, Stanley." - Talk about breaking my heart! They still love each other! So why, may I ask, are they not together?
"I’d marry you all over again, you know." - Hmm...romantic, much? I just adore romantic, sentimental Stanley. It's how I like to picture him with Karen.
I won't copy and paste the whole thing, but I loved how Stan said his wedding day with her was the happiest day of his life and then he segued into Karen doing the chicken dance. It's funny and great imagery, but it's also how Karen and Stan are. They'll say something sentimental and emotional and then they'll just go straight into something funny to downplay the emotion. Argh, so frustrating.
I also loved the part where they talk about the kids. I love the thought of Olivia worshipping karen, it's just so adorable.
"And it was time. It was time to let go of her image of her and Stanley growing old together, it was time to let go of her stepchildren, and it was time to let go of her dream of having a baby. They were silly notions and she needed to get over them. The kids playroom would finally become an Indian casino and she would turn the nursery into another liquor storage unit. And she would get used to having a big bed to herself with no one to hold her close at night. Letting go was something she did, something she was good at." - Sorry to paste the entire thing, but I just adored this. It's so very Karen. She deserves to stay with Stanley and have a baby, but she has to give that dream up. And like you said, it's something she did, something she was conditioned to be good at. And the conversion of the kids' rooms and the nursery was sad, but what struck me so much was how she would get used to a her big bed with no one to hold her. It's just so sad.
Ok, this is probably the longest review ever, but I adored this story. I can't wait for more! :o) |
JWood201 2006-05-25 . chapter 1This is, like, incredibly sad. The way you've written Karen, I half expected her to take it all back and for him to stay. I had finally gotten over their breakup and then you had to go and write this. Haha. Very well done, though, dahling! |
