abuse:O Did you just kill Rose? :O

I'm gonna have to read the rest...

...can't believe you just murdered Rose...

(Well, not just - this was written two years ago after all, but still!)

abuseGah! He thinks too much when he doesn't have to!

But it was a brilliant final chapter. Sometimes I wish that a few of my favorite fanfic writers had some say it what happens in the canon. Perhaps not all of them, but a few. I had always hoped that the fact that Rose was the Bad Wolf would make a way so that she and the Doctor... Well, I had hoped that she would be there again to hold his hand. That she would save him from his terrible loneliness once and for all.

Well...perhaps she might yet? Even if it's only in the fanfiction...

Coffee. Perfect peace offering, and the first step on keeping his promise. ^^ Another flicker of humor too, and God knows we needed one after the intensity of this story. Great storytelling!

Seems there is more as well. But, as it stands it's 5AM at the moment. 5AM on a Monday morning, and I have work tomorrow. I am officially a moron, but...just couldn't stop reading this story. ^^;; Sleep is for the weak anyway.

Thanks for this. I loved every word.

abuseAh, no worries about mourning Rose in advance. I recall being exactly the same way. And annoying a lot of people around me as well. ^^

That being said...the wonderful, poignant phrases in this chapter echoed with the hurt of what was to come. There were even traces of humor. Truly, it was surreal for the Doctor to be running from Rose instead of with her or alongside her or for her.

"She was his goddess." Incredible. Such a short phrase, and yet there are no stronger words to convey how much he needed her. And when Rose said, "For now, just love me," that said much as well. Because sometimes, all there is, is "now". Tomorrow isn't promised, not even for a Time Lord.

Indeed, what else matters?

abuseAs hard as he tries, there are times indeed when the Doctor can't keep his promises.

Still, he seems to think he's a burden for the wonderful girl now does he? Well...I don't believe Rose would think so in a million years. And still, even on the chance I'm wrong and she does think he's heavy to carry sometimes, there are certain burdens that are a joy to bear, aren't there?

abuseAwesome. Love, love in spite of the agony. Love THROUGH the agony!

Have I mentioned this is brilliant storytelling indeed?

abuseThe most painful thing for me right now is knowing the future. You wrote this story in 2006, during the second series. At the time this chapter I'm reviewing was posted, you'd only just watched "The Satan Pit." And here I've discovered the story in sad old 2008, mere days after having seen the end of series four.

Still, as depressed as I was at that particular ending (or, depending on one's point of view, that could even be a beginning), I guess in a way...in a twisted way that I would never have wanted...that ending confirmed that they really did love each other. Losing her at the end of series two, missing her throughout series three and most of series four. Forced to live without her, but knowing that she was safe and relatively happy must have helped with his own despair.

Besides, it seems fate has a way of jolting him into chaos before he can barely get in a good cry. For example, looking up to find a strange woman in a wedding dress standing beside his console where she had definately not been a moment before.

But, er, sorry. Meant to be reviewing the chapter. Yes, as I said, it's painful here to know the future. Especially when he reflects on how he would break when she eventually had to leave, however that method of leaving came about.

But the writing was fantastic as its always been so far. Again, so much allusion to the duality inside the Doctor. And again, the sensations! Of being soaking wet and bone dry, of being terried and calm all at once. Brilliant storytelling.

The mention of the "psychic equivalent of slow, condescending applause" was the coolest phrase I've read in a while too. ^^

abuseThose last two lines were spectacular.

The trauma is incredible this time. The Doctor had such a thing about killing that it might take a lot to recover from this.

Thing is, he already shattered when she drowned, and he is yet shattering. So many complicated faucets to this man, I guess there were many levels of him to collapse. But with those last two lines, perhaps there will be some healing for the hurt?

abuseI read this chapter rather wide-eyed. He really did fall so far so quickly, didn't he? His madness is painful to watch, and with your writing, also to FEEL.

abuseThe horror was so intense here that I read the entire chapter with my mouth hanging open. Again, such sensations that were describted, but almost no visualization. It only added to the horror, and it was amazingly well done.

Such incoherent thoughts indeed, woven together. Making no sense, and yet understandable in their meaning. What the feelings are.

abuseSuch emotion. I love the way certain phrases are repeated. "The water was smooth now." It adds a rhythm and draws attention to important visions and sensations. Again, the desperation. I absolutely loved the way the Doctor shows his skills and "impressiveness"--totally unconsciously, since the only concern he had, the only thing in his universe was this moment in time: saving Rose. That perfect dive into the water, and the way he knew what most people don't think of at the time, that he didn't have to wait to get out of the water before he got some air into his companion.

I love the descriptions in his mind, floating out from his despair, of what he imagined loving Rose to be like. And then his rage... The Doctor, killing for revenge? Every man has his breaking point.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. On to the next chapter.
