 Muggledog 2007-02-14 . chapter 1Wow!
I love 'Goodbye My Lover'. That's easily one of James Blunt's best. I bought the album for 'You're Beautiful', which, don't get me wrong, I love too, for it's blatant corniness, but I've come to love 'Goodbye My Lover' more, and can play the opening bars on the piano, too. The song makes a good songfic for HP.
To start the review, a funny anecdote: When I read that (I'm paraphrasing) "Remus could not be happy at the Potters' wedding", at first I thought it was Harry Potter's wedding, so I'm thinking, "whoa, so is Harry marrying Tonks instead of Ginny??"! So, based upon that almost foolish assumption, I was pleased to see you actually meant James and Lily's wedding.
The story itself was very sad, and is wonderfully written--and that's saying something, coming from me, as I've never been very warm towards songfics, but I cannot deny that this one is special. Good job!!
Remus, I always thought, due to his 'furry little problem' was a bit afraid of falling in love and marriage--you see that very clearly at the end of 'Half-Blood Prince' in the scene scene by Bill Weasley's bed in the Hogwarts infirmary when Tonks finally confesses her feelings for Lupin--so I thought he was a bit O of C, both in that he was head over heels for Lily and that he wanted to marry her.
Having said that, the Remus/Tonks ship, as it starts in 'HBP', could arguably be something of the present, and if you write a fic based around the time the Marauders were at Hogwarts, who's to say that Lupin DIDN'T have a crush on Lily? On the other hand, if I recall correctly, I feel like there was a scene in either 'OotP' or 'HBP' where Lupin made a passing mention (I think it was in the chapter 'The Advance Guard' in 'OotP') that Tonks had been an Auror a year or two under either himself or Kingsley or Mad-Eye, which suggests that Tonks probably went to Hogwarts around the time of the Marauders, which gives Remus/Tonks shippers (such as myself) a boost to say that Lupin probably never loved Lily any more than in a platonic, brotherly way. Furthermore, I think it is indesputable that Lupin and Tonks may very well end up a couple in no. 7 (Lupin's response to Tonks' admonitions that she "doesn't care" about his lycanthropy, going back to what I said earlier, makes me think Lupin is every bit as crazy for her as she is for him, but is just terrified of how well being a Werewolf and matrimony bond and the differences of age).
However, ALL that said, a very good story! |
dixiebaby1111 2006-06-28 . chapter 1Aww, poor Lupin! I feel so bad for him. ;_; But about this little piece 'I’m not a fan of MWPP stories,' Are you seriously saying people write Molly Weasley and Peter Pettigrew stories? I'm usually pretty good at putting in the initials but it just didn't seem possible, I mean, she's married for heaven's sake! (If that is what the pairing is,) -shutters- Ew. I really can't imagine Pettigrew marrying (stike that) even fancying someone. Much less someone fancying HIM! -gasp- |
