J Luc Pitard 2007-07-27 . chapter 6This was a powerful trilogy. I enjoyed the retelling of certain scenes and the adult view of each character. Kagome's journey is a bit flat, but that's probably due to the nature of where she went. No real emotions there after all. You had me genuinely worried for Kagome once the spirits told her she could stay!
There were many brilliant touches, such as Inuyasha battling Jakotsu's temptations both in nightmare and in 'reality.' I liked the feet morphing into Kohaku (it's just too amusing) and the overall theme of love for one another being our strength.
Well thought out and executed. |

FrameofMind 2006-09-30 . chapter 6Very impressive, and quite moving. I spent a lot of time copy-pasting this title from list to list during IYFG noms last quarter, but I never actually got a chance to read it until now (*grin*). Needless to say, I'm very glad I did so.
You've done a fantastic job of capturing the rawness of the group's pain (both physical and emotional) following the final battle -- something which is often attempted, but not often accomplished. I also find it interesting that the entire story -- dark as it is -- consists of the *aftermath* of Naraku's destruction (which was obviously the point of the story, but it nonetheless offers a unique perspective on the event). The whole piece is extremely vivid and captivating -- and I love the fact that you were able to maintain a significant amount of tension without resorting solely to the constant threat of character death. Although death was sometimes a possibility, separation, indifference, and psychological damages were the real dangers. And despite everything, it all worked out essentially alright in the end. Excellent.
Also, major kudos on the scene between Inuyasha and Kagome just as she finally woke up. In addition to the fact that I think I stopped breathing during the entire thing (who has time to breathe when you're that into a story? *grin*), it felt very fresh and organic and genuine -- which is not easy to accomplish in a scene that has basically been written five billion times over by as many authors. Very well done. And although Kagome's new somberness worried me a bit for a while there, once she proved that she could still laugh (at the very end), everything came together. Then I could see that she had gained this new maturity without losing that character defining capacity for cheerfulness.
In short, I loved it... |
