Elizabeth Hensley 2008-04-12 . chapter 10 Thank you! As some one with many food and air borne allergies I appreciate any one who helps educate folks about our plight.
Ignorant restaurant workers are the bane of my existence. All too often I get the, "What she doesn't know won't hurt her lie." Or to get me to leave I get the, "Everything contains gluten, get out of here," lie. I get that any time I call the McDonald's phone number to find out about these things. If I say I'm allergic to corn, the modified food starch contains corn. If I say I'm allergic to wheat, the modified food starch contains wheat. They are trained just to get folks off the line quickly so more of them don't have to be hired. Actually checking ingrediants is not something they are trained to do.
When asking about MSG it is not enough to ask if they add it, you also have to be careful and ask if the food contained it before they added it. Even then, they can and do lie, or don't really know.
One waitress lied, or didn't bother to really check and she had a mess to clean up. When I tell waitresses that it is amazing how suddenly they go back and REALLY check.
Now purty please, write one where Sam stops some ignorant smoker from giving someone a sinus head ache, sleep apnea problem, or asthma attack, from their second hand smoke. |
