I really thought this read like prose, with the random thoughts (My eyes are prettier, always second best...) mixed with the narration. Cool story.

That part I found the most interesting. "Try try again..."

That is some spectacular imagry- very poetic prose. I think you really did pin down a little piece of Eugene, and did it beautifully.
