It's so good on so many levels that I haven't the time to list them all, and I've only read the frist chapter. The characters are spot on and the writing excellent.

One thing I loved in particular was Roy's feelings about himself and the war - worrying that his men would no longer respect or accept him if they knew his dark past. Is this the result of that talk with the veteran? If so, it would seem you were listening.

I'll be getting to the other chapters soon.
