 DanPhantomCrush 2007-12-18 . chapter 2Hello!
First of all: this is very well written, especially for a "16 year old Finnish girl". Perhaps they teach reading and writing more effectively over there...
Anyway, I love your descriptions- for example, when Piccolo leaves the lookout he is "taken by the sky" or something like that- I'm paraphrasing, lol.
Sadly, it looks like you haven't updated this in over a year. That said, this nearly works as a two chapter story- a little interlude in Dende's life, a bitter sweet look at the life a Namekian living with a beautiful female in his life. :P
The only constructive criticism I can give is your occasional misuse of a word. For instance, you say Piccolo is a "usual guest". Instead you could say "frequent visitor", or "regular visitor". Anyway, this is a small gripe- but it's the sort of thing that suggests to the reader that English might be your second language. :D No offense meant by any of this, of course! I just really thought your fic deserved a longer review.
Ah. If only this sort of quality- and your unusual premise- could be found more often on this site. (Sigh)
What else? It's clear you worked really ** this, and I'm sorry you didn't get more reviews. Dende is such an under-utilized character! I thought you kept him in character, and you also bring up a lot of the questions you'd expect someone so young (and alien) to have about suddenly being a guardian to an entire planet. Piccolo...I thought he was a little too cold. But not by much. And perhaps he was embarrassed at having seen signs of the wrong sort of love forming between his protege and this strange ex-kai, and was thus a little quick to leave.
Haha...I have this scene in my head of poor Dende going to Bulma for help- "Bulma, I think this girl might be in love with me...mumble mumble...and vice versa..."
I've always thought it strange that the most powerful, god-like beings in the DBZ universe are also men and women, not asexual like the Nameks. I thought, during the Freeza era, that maybe Toriyama is linking celibacy with spirituality. But when the Buu era showed up, that clearly wasn't the case. One of the kais was even a dirty old man.
So Piccolo appears to be concerned that Dende, as Guardian, shouldn't be interested in girls. But that doesn't really hold up, right? So I suppose it's his asexual nature- perhaps Piccolo simply doesn't consider it natural.
Although...I've always thought it ridiculous that the entire species blatantly looks (and behaves) like men only. My personal theory is that all the women were just killed off, and the men were forced to adapt an asexual method of reproduction. Okay...I'm just blathering now.
Later. Here's to the forlorn hope that you might begin updating again. :D

Dashi 2006-07-11 . chapter 2 He is in the story, but I've only mentioned him for a couple of times.^^ Like in this part:
"his eyes, that were following the movement outside, as mr. Popo and Ana took care of his garden." |
DigitalAvatar 2006-07-09 . chapter 1A very promising beginning indeed.
I like the character of Ana so far, and anticipate learning more about her. Her origins as a Kai are of particular interest. I also like Dende having a chance at romance, despite the barrier of Namekian asexuality. I agree, there is no reason he shouldn't be able to fall in love.
A couple of minor spelling and grammar issues, but no major problems that I can see. Nothing a quick pass with a spell checker wouldn't fix.
Looking forward to more!
