Well, I'd never thought it'd be that way, but it does make sense. Did you watch the anime?? At the end of episode 21, my heart broke for Kaoru. I knew Hikaru and Haruhi were closer than ever. Then I thought of Kaoru and Tamaki. They'd be uber heartbroken. Since the anime ends without anything, cept Hikaru and Haruhi, I like to think this as the continuation. Kaoru and Tamaki do deserve some happiness too, don't they?

Never considered this pairing as I love Haruhi/Twins or one pair or the other.. but you did this very well I felt for both Hikaru and his brave talk with Haruhi even though we don't know what he was saying for Hikaru it must have taken guts.
