Angel being around to protect him would surely explain a lot, and I could see how Angel would be fascinated by the work Brassai was doing. Can I assume it was Angel who got Wolfram and Hart to sponsor the exhibition?

I love the idea of Angel being this man's secret protector. This was really good. For some reason it almost leaves me feeling sorry for Angel for being excluded from that world so completely. Love the historical fact of his Transylvanian origin being so suggestive in those first few lines too.
