| Persephone of Abydos 2007-02-16 ch 1, | abuseI'm sort of disappointed in myself for not stumbling across this story sooner. I've patrolled the IY fandom everyday since...well, since IY started being fansubbed (2001? 2002?), and I managed to miss this very well-written story. Luckily you reviewed some of my stuff and enabled me to click on your username. ;รพ What makes this story even more poignant for me are two things: one, you do that rare thing where Kikyou is actually portrayed respectfully; and two, I've read a shitload of Durkheim and was practically reciting "Suicide", particularly the section on anomic suicide, in my head while I read this fic. I don't think anyone could ever actually make me admire Kikyou, but what amazes me is that you actually made me care for Durkheim, which is bizarre because I've hated him ever since my first Sociology class. So, in a nutshell: mad props! |
| Nilee 2007-01-22 ch 1, | abuseThis is an incredibly powerful story. Your stories are always so insightful, evocative and well written that I am often left speechless. |
| Jubei 2006-07-29 ch 1, anon. | abuseYou have captured the essence of Kikyou in a one-shot that was hauntingly reminescent of The Awakening. Except, she didn't walk all the way out to sea, because even in death duty was unrelenting. The opening quote by the revered Emile Durkheim was so on point that it's amazing you drew the connection between isolation and normlessness to Kikyou. It seems natural that anomie could even find the undead and make nothing worthwhile except the end of existence, which is a welcome state for a woman of nothingness. This story was poetically beautiful and hauntingly dark, a fitting mixture for the often misinterpretted Kikyou. |
| misery's leech 2006-07-28 ch 1, anon. | abuseIt amazes me what you write. This story was beautifully written and probably the most justice and thought ever put into Kikyo's character. You have an eye for profound connections and intricate characterizations. Your style is never lacking. I loved this oneshot, through and through. |
| Kurtz 2006-07-26 ch 1, | abuseMy love for you knows no bounds. This one shot was simply amazing to read. Kikyou is by far the most misrepresented and misunderstood character. People don't take the time to delve into her character and why she is the way she is. I remeber studying Durkheim in college, but I had to go look him up after reading this. The term anomie does apply perfectly to Kikyou and I'm astounded by your keen eye for decontsructing her character in such a profound way. She doesn't feel and so she's separated herself from society so completely that she's lost all norms giving her no reason to exist. The more she ponders it the more she wants it. That is her wish now. How creative and wonderfully deep. The imagery was breathtaking and the metaphors were to die for (lol). Even the summary was beautifully eye catching. The part where compared her to the shell was lovely and the analogy of a moth to a candle like her anger drew her in was brilliant. The last line was most haunting and so fitting of her that I had to take a few moments to collect myself before reveiwing. You are an incredibly gifted writer. You have the ability to make people re-evaluate people and concepts they never thought twice on. Please don't ever stop. |
| Gibbons 2006-07-25 ch 1, anon. | abuseYou're a very talented author. With beautiful words and a poetic twist you have mananged to make people think. This was a most compelling one-shot and a unique insight to a very misunderstood character. |
| NoLoveLost 2006-07-25 ch 1, anon. | abuseI don't really like Kikyo, but the summary caught my attention. I'm glad I read this. You have a way with words and the way you structure them makes your writing very beautiful. Here's the deal. Keeping in mind that there's no love lost between me and Kikyo you really made me think. She has no reason to exist and that's what she now wishes for. I loved the way you molded her previous wishes into this one. It was like a dark revelation. In a nutshell, this story was well done. Thanks for making me rethink Kikyo. |
| speechless 2006-07-25 ch 1, anon. | abuseThis was a smart, beautifully written one-shot. Thank you for sharing. |
| MortyRind 2006-07-25 ch 1, anon. | abuseWow. This is the best Kikyo portrayal I've ever read and your style is amazing. Most people are quick to hate her and I can see why beyond the die hard Inuyasha-Kagome fans. She's cold and she helped Naraku. But you gave her reasons for her shortcomings. She can't feel and she really doesn't care. What a wonderful perspective. |
| GoldAngel2 2006-07-24 ch 1, | abuseI know I have yet to review your latest update, but I promise I will--I have to revise and send my manuscript to the publisher for prouction by 8/3 so it is a priority... but I had to take a break and read this-and what a wonderful way to take a break, with this glimpse into the appearingly cold and unfeeling Kikyou--and the way you wrote her feelings is exactly as I have her in "Darkest Hour". Her hopes and dreams were alway taking a backseat to her duty, and this shows those dreams in that young girl's heart that a handsome hanyou had awakened...another reason to envy Kagome as she is still in possession of her hopes and dreams...and Inu-Yasha's heart Incidently, have you been able to follow the recent manga? The last three chapters were heartwrenching as Kikyou has finally died, in Inu's arms and this week, Kouga said his farewells to Kagome-leaving nothing standing between Inu and her--except maybe Naraku... Beautiful imagery as usual--another breathtaker BTW I must get names and addressed of those who want to follow my book and I would be so honored if you would give me yours...PublisAmerica will send out an announcement when the book is published. So PM me and let me know, okay? Ja'ne! |
