This was ... sad. But good!

This is a wonderful story.

Guh, can't find words... ... ... ...

This is so bittersweat, so sad and so powerful. How Dean does everything for his family and both of them, his dad and Sam, just don't seem to see what their continuous arguments do to Dean. How they're killing him slowly on the inside and still he tries to hold it together until his world crumbles when Sammy leaves.

...and that last line:
One of these days, he'll only need to set one place.

Gez, there are still tears running down right now... you can really tear people apart with your words, I hope you know how awfully talented you are!

So detailed, you're either a good cook yourself or you've definately done your research. Lots of family warmth mixed with gut wrenching sadness and then there's Dean in the middle trying to hold it all together- beautiful.

Oh. OH. This hurts so much but it's beautiful enough to be worth it. Dean, with his quiet self-sacrificing attempts to hold everything together, always breaks my heart, but here even more than usual.

Also, this struck a chord for me because I was raised by a single dad and had to teach myself to cook when I was twelve. I know what it's like.

I love this fic... really and truely. It shows so well that complication that is family. So many things are taken for granted. So many things are unsaid. And so often are the situations where you just can't win... Oh Dean...

I seriously don't even know where to start with this one. *hands Janissa the Internet* You win at everything. This is just...indescribeable and so gritty and beautiful. I love the juxtaposition of Dean's improving domestic skills and his family's deterioration, and you write Dean with a really amazing depth and clarity. I love the way you capture little snapshot 'meals' over the course of the years, Dean's quiet despair as he tries to hold things together strikes a chord because we already know how it will end for him. And you pick out perfect little details, like the cicidas buzzing as Dean slowly creates the last family meal, to make the setting come alive and set the mood for each scene, and yet you've kept it a part of Dean's narrative; all these little things he notices while his world is falling apart.

This is a great story!! I can totally see Dean starting to cook for Sammy and finishing by trying to please his dad! I do feel bad for him at the end though!!

Wow, you made me cry. This was so powerful. The way they're nice to him when he's hurt on the outside, the way they're killing him inside, how he sees everything falling apart and tries to keep it together as long as he can... Just beautiful.

I love your stories. I feel so bad for Dean...he's really gotten the ** end of things, being caught between Sam and John. I can so see Dean in the kitchen, working with a recipe and trying to hard to please his family...in whatever way he can.
