You're right, realistically, this would be how Sesshomaru would express his feelings towards Rin. He would rather give her up so she could have a chance of a normal life, than to allow her to follow him until the day she died. It was beautifully written. I love how you use logic, and a realistic approach.

Although I am that sort of person who wish to see Sesshoumaru and Rin coming together one day, I must admit that this story is what is likely going to happen. You captured Sess wonderfully and I loved the bittersweet tone of the story :)
