Hi! This is really useful, thanks! Though in Rule #12, isn't -dono used in reference to the actual samurai as well? Eg. Citizen 1 says to the samurai who just saved their village, "Thank you, Randomname-dono". Maybe it's both, or maybe a lot of samurai were lords as well . . .

Nicely done! I'm not sure it's quite a fic, but it certainly contains coherent ficlets and is a more fun read than many fics on here :-) Wondering if it would be a good basis for a forum?

Oh, and have you ever seen Ms. Nitpicker's website? If not, I recommend it.

A couple of comments...

Rule #7 is in fact often held up as what not to do. It's called "said-bookism" - replacing the perfectly good, near invisible word "said" with something unusual simply to avoid using "said". Having said that, all your examples do in fact add more than that, except for the last one. "Sure" implies consent, so it's rather redundant here. If a conversation reads as repetitive, it's probably not because of "said", it's usually because every line has the same structure.
"I hate it when you do that," he said.
"But I always do it," she said.
"Well, I wish you wouldn't," he said.
"I'll try not to next time," she said.
"Thank you," he said.
isn't improved all that much by adding muttering, suggesting and exclaiming to the mix. It needs some actions and some variety in structure (which your example already has).

Rule #10 - you might want to point out that second person "you-fics" aren't allowed on this site. (I presume because of their association with interactive fic, though I don't actually know.) I've read some very good ones, so I have nothing against them personally.

Rule #12 - I'd agree absolutely, and maybe even more strongly than you've put it, this one is for readers only. If you have to look up Japanese honorifics, you're way better off not using them.

hmm...Very useful reference for when some one is doing fanfic's =] Nice ideas.

Oh and -dono comes from the word "tono" meaning "lord" and confers utmost respect =)

Well, I'm definitely glad someone decided to put something up like this. Hopefully, no one will get mad and try to report this because it's not a story. You shouldn't have to worry, though.

Once again, senpai has owned the n00bs *tacklesglomphug*

Very funny, informative and interesting all at once! :D Hopefully, other (new/amateur/learning) authors will take the advice! (fingers crossed! ;p )
