that was funny and sad. a little ironic note at the end. one would wonder what could possibly make cake batter taste bad, then again i had quite a few disasters in the kitchen when i was young.

Ah, poor Kaoru. I know what it's like to fail at something even though you've tried so hard at it. But she CAN make sponge cake. It's ok Kaoru.

This made me laugh. I loved the idea that Kaoru was convincing herself that maybe the next recipe or a new cuisine was all she needed. Teh last line was precious.
