 Marcus S. Lazarus 2009-11-20 . chapter 37Hoo boy…
A dramatic start led on to a VERY effective story; congratulations.
Your insight into Adama’s trust issues after so many people he thought he could count on had let him down was particularly well thought-out, while the crew’s subsequent attempts to cope with this ‘new’ version of the Admiral and wonder how they’ll cope without him in his coma were clearly developed in surprising depth.
Plus, of course, his ‘family’s’ reaction to his resumed relationship with Roslin was very well-presented; a touching blend of various comic responses, ranging from Kara’s amusement to Lee’s attempts not to think about his father doing… THAT… with the President.
However, the depth of your writing is let down by one simple factor; your over-use of the ‘MacGuffin’ concept.
You create such potentially intriguing plot ideas as Roslin organising a return expedition to Kobol to recover some missing scrolls, and then have the expedition abandon Kobol without any real sign that they were making a serious effort to find them, followed by that ‘bacterial infection’ in the fleet without ever elaborating on the cause of the infection…
Your characterisation moments were excellent, don’t get me wrong, but when the reasons for the characters getting into those situations are that basic it detracts from interest in the plot; it’s like you only bothered to plan out PART of the plot and figured that you could skip over the bits you weren’t that interested in writing yourself.
You have good ideas, but you needed to develop things in greater depth; as it is, I felt like I was trying to read a book with around the middle third of its pages missing. |
nativefloridian 2009-01-16 . chapter 37Loved the whole 'stuck in life station' thing, not to mention everyone watching them.
Don't know why you apologize for length, I didn't want it to end... |
LaurandBill-DestinyLove 2008-07-24 . chapter 37ah, girl, your fic kept me awake all night- I just couldn't turn the computer off intil I reached the end... wow... I LOVE IT! |
 sosayweall 2008-06-04 . chapter 37 FRAK!
FRAK, FRAK, FRAK!
I'm so disappointed this is over! I dragged out the final chapters as long as I could and, right now, I'm tempted to reread the whole dang thing!
Upon reflection, however, I'm also glad you ended the story when you did. While, on some level, I enjoy fan fics (not necessarily BSG) that continue past the "happy ending" I usually come to the realization that it's become B-O-R-I-N-G! Sure, they're favorite characters but who really wants to go grocery shopping and read bedtime stories for endless chapters? ;)
Anyway, kudos to you for such a well thought out and unique story. I'm going to check out some of your other BSG stuff and pray to the Gods for your hiatus to end soon! THANK YOU AGAIN! |
darth rat 2008-06-03 . chapter 37Thanks for the great story. |
sosayweall 2008-06-01 . chapter 35 Your sense of humor really adds subtle nuances to the characters. This may be my all time favorite Cottle line:
Cottle wasn't convinced, but could tell there wouldn't be talking any sense into her just yet. Looking at her, he decided to take another tack: "When Adama hears this, it'll send him right back into his coma."
I'm still enjoying the story but so sorry the conclusion is imminent. |
sosayweall 2008-05-30 . chapter 23 Dang, this is good stuff! I really like the struggle that Adama is going thru as he tries to reconcile his feelings of betrayal with his feelings of love toward Roslin. Too many fan fics go for the quick resolution. Roslin's realizations are also fascinating. You've really captured her emotional side - or my perception of it - with this passage:
This was the man who completed her, who protected her and challenged her and made her more than the sum of her parts. If she were the lighthouse, he was the rock upon which she stood. For her to be who she was would be impossible without him.
The thought frightened her. |
 sosayweall 2008-05-30 . chapter 22 FINALLY! :) |
sosayweall 2008-05-30 . chapter 11 WOW! Powerful chapter! I was intending on submitting a review after reading the whole story but this was just so compelling I had to take a break now! Your tale is amazing. I find Adama's attitude disturbing yet so understandable at the same time. I'm eager to read the rest. |
Calico Star 2008-04-23 . chapter 37Wow, that was quite a ride. A powerful story. |
Ethereal-Journey 2007-11-27 . chapter 37First I must sincerely apologize from stepping away from this wonderful story. And second, I have to say it was excellent. The internal conflict they each struggled with was so emotional. I'm glad that in the end they agreed to stick together. They need each other.
~~Tigh nodded. “We’re the first five.”
“And hopefully the final,” Bill muttered, strongly suspecting that Cottle, with his frakking, godsdamned 'in bed together' comment, made six.~~
This particular exchange amused me :-)
Awesome story. |
idolchatter 2007-09-28 . chapter 37Oh my goodness. I just re-read the entire story from start to finish as I would not allow myself to read the final chapter until I had and, quite simply, I loved it. The characters of Bill, Laura, and Cottle proved to be true to what could develop on the show and I believe that is an essential marker for a great fanfiction work.
Thank you, thank you for this much needed hiatus patch. |
bluelike 2007-09-26 . chapter 37I was so impatient to read next/last chapter that it took me a few weeks to write a feedback!
But when I finally did read it, I’m sorry it is over so soon!
I guess it is not the same for you, but I discovered your story/ies only this may, so, it is pretty quickly over for me ;-)
And your concluded it great! Really amazing!
Maybe not everything I’ve personally wished for, but that’s no t so important
I enjoyed reading this story very much, and hopefully you will still get impressed by Roslin and Adama from time to time, and reward us with your word's play
Thank you for sharing! |
 mary_me11 2007-09-24 . chapter 37 Hi,
I needed to collect my thoughts about “THaC”, because the end came pretty unexpected, although you told us several times the end will come probably soon.
I enjoyed reading this story a lot. Laura was adorable (the whole time) and Adama drove me a little crazy (sometimes).
My favorite chapter was definitely No. 33” Rapprochement”. The flashback of their first time together was just beautiful and very believable. To let them say one thing and do exactly the opposite, like let them talk about responsibilities and that a personal relationship would be a bad idea while in bed together already was so much fun to read, so in character and made me laugh a lot.
I always expected Zarek to show up in this story, because he was a kind of big issue, but you decided differently.
To make Laura pregnant was the biggest surprise, but I liked it right away. I didn’t used to be a fan of “A/R-baby-fics” (and I’m sure you never meant “THaC” to become one), but I totally changed my attitude towards baby-fics, because especially in their case it is always so unexpected, never easy, usually very funny and so romantic! The best part of every story where Laura gets pregnant is the moment when both find out about it (mostly through Cottle). I was very much looking forward to see with what idea you would come up and was sure it would be priceless. So I was surprised and a little disappointed to find out you ended the storyline the evening before this event, especially because the conservation between Cottle and his nurse was so cute and funny.
But besides this the ending was a real ending and your explanation why you liked to end it there, made a lot of sense.
So I can’t wait to read your next “piece of art” and hope your BSG hiatus won’t be too long…… |
357153 2007-09-17 . chapter 37I finished my essay yesterday and treated myself with some wonderful stories to read, including Too High A Cost and it was beautiful. I'm glad that you included Cottle in the last chapter because, really, you have done such a wonderful job with writing him, it would have been a real shame if you hadn't.
Laura and Bill - What can I say? I was a bit worried at the beginning of the chapter, because I thought Bill would remain distrustful, but the way Laura *knew* what to say to him and how to make him feel better... It really is the beginning of something "bigger than it was". They're stronger for it. And I have to mention this because I am a big fan of humour, I loved the banter between them...
Oh and the bit from the 'family' was good too. Almost forgot about them. Not that they weren't great, but really, Cottle, Laura and Bill were the highlights of this wonderful story.
One last note, I guess - thank you! |
