Brushing a person's hair is a very good way to comfort them I think. At first it's a little weird, but it's comfort without being super-awkward like trying to hug someone where you're touching them all over and they're uncomfortable.

This was a really cute story. I agree with you, my mom sometimes does that to my hair to relax me, and man does it work! You kept them greatly in character while exploring the more romantic side of their relationship. Great job for a fist delve in the shounen-ai world!
