I found this story incredibly depressing. I completely understand that Maria felt trapped being with Carlito even though she loved him, but I'm confused why she couldn't talk to him about it; why didn't she tell him? If she loved him that much, why suck away his life too so she could be happy. And if she was planning on leaving, why did she tell him about the baby? All she had to do was leave and he would never had known.

It was beautiful, but it was sad and would to think that somewhere somehow they can find a way to find some life between the two of them, even if it is only so their can live.

This definitely contends for one of the best fics I've ever read. I'm not usually a fan of the pairing but Carlito being in it persuaded me to read against my will and I'm glad I did. The writing's very intelligent and thought provoking.Leaving the end like you did, although sad, was most definitely the best way.
