I liked this look at Dallas. :) I think you had him down well; his natural defensiveness when a siren sounds, his instinctive antagonism towards cops, and Darry's reaction plus Dallas's to the bad news.

I loved this... Absolutely loved it. It was short and sweet and left me feeling motivated to write a story of my own. Although I love writing Dally, using the first person perspective scares me to death. I think you did an awesome job with it, though. You made it look easy.

I loved the simplicity of his interactions with Johnny. We know from the novel that Johnny is the only thing Dally ever cared about, but it's hard to imagine Dally being outwardly nice and mushy towards him. You've got just enough caring and niceness here with the cold, hard Dallas edge that we all know and love. It was subtle and great. I also loved the end. Darry speaking to the cops nearly broke my heart. The line: "Soda's... Where the hell is that kid?" really got me somehow. It made Darry seem so young and scared and vulnerable, something we don't usually see with him.

But back to Dallas... Toward the end, it almost seems like he is convincing himself not to care about the Curtis parents. It's like I can see this glimmer almost coming to the surface and then getting pushed away, because being "tough" is just easier. The last lines were excellent. I hope you leave this just the way it is.

And I'd say you did a great job at writing Dally's POV. You kept him in-character and the way he thought was very Dallas.

The constant banter between him and the cops was great too; he's got such an attitude, lol.

"I had a feeling they’d care; I wouldn’t, but hey, that’s just how it is." I loved that line too.

I can't say there's anything I see to change. It was really great and as much as I would like to see more on this, I think it would work really well as a one-shot. Great job.
