I'm a late-comer to the fandom as well as to your beautiful fic, but I have to say it's by far the best PMK piece I've been able to find - I absolutely adore the way you've captured Okita and Hijikata's unique background, and you've made me love them all the more for it :) Your writing is strong and the imagery you use is very beautiful and vivid - I especially love the bit with the red string.

I must admit, when you didn't go into detail about the fight I was dissapointed. I live vicariously through the creativity of others. Once I'd had time to absorb it all; and re-read it, I realized that an 8y/o child wouldn't have remembered the details of such a traumatic experience. Especially if he was injured. Your decision not to give in to the viseral is a sign of just how talented you truly are.

I don't think it so unusual that a 7y/o would find Hijikata "pretty". Hijikata would only have been 16
or 17 himself and probably was-at that age-VERY pretty.

I think every other reviewer has probably said everything that needs to be said about this story, but I'll add some more repetition. I love it. Peacemaker Kurogane is the only anime I will watch, and the only pairing that really interests me is Hijikata with Souji. Their relationship is always hinted, nothing more, so seeing it written out instead of kept in the shadows is wonderful.

All your portrayals are absolutely perfect: I can picture every piece of dialogue coming out of the corresponding character's mouth, because they are so accurate. I also love your use of present tense, if I'm allowed to comment on style; somehow, it makes the story more personal.
