Squirt Sapphire 2007-06-16 . chapter 1WOW omg, i'm SO SORRY that I haven't gotten to read this until now!! I've been so busy!! I feel really guilty now... But.. On the plus side, I finally did read it! :) Anyways. This is written GREAT! Its so sad though... But atleast they don't die by the enemies hand.. ITs a sad ending b/c they die,but then its happy b/c they both sorta die happy.. I guess.. i dunno. It was good tho :D |
Kitaliah 2007-03-22 . chapter 1Personally, i haven't read or watched anything to do with Farewell my concubine, but even if i had i still believe that this is a fine piece of work that deserves to be recognised. |
Berlin's Brown Eyes 2006-12-27 . chapter 1First of all, I love this. I could say it is "amazing" or "beautiful" but that just wouldn't do. The word must be love. The scene with Zelda sitting under the tree, the characterization—just wow. You beat the crap out of Shakespeare in use of dramatic irony. And that scene at the tavern is probably my favorite of any Zelda fic I have ever read. The contrast between Zelda and Link, just the way you transition adds so much emotion to the story I thought my heart leapt out of my throat! I could feel how Zelda felt as she stared into her mug of ale. And THAT is good writing.
You are also incredibly brave to write tragedy. This is one of very few I have seen done well. The only other I can think of is Angels by LinkWorshiper, a very old and very long fic. I find if you want to write a successful tragedy, it has to be a one-shot or reviewers go mad (You can't let them get too attached to the characters), so compliments to you. I was beginning to worry that only one of them would die, which makes a tragedy so much more tragic, but alas I was pleased, if one could call it pleasure, that you ended it with both of them dead. I think I'm running out of words to express my praises...
I was only mildly distressed by one element of your story, and that was that I felt Link was a little out of character towards the middle of the story. I could imagine him being a gambler, but I couldn't really imagine him having an addiction to it. After I played around with it my head for awhile I decided it was actually not a bad idea. Of course towards the end he did grow to be a bit more like the Link I imagined him to be. ;)
I must now thank you for the entertainment I experienced while reading this story and add this to my embarassingly short list of favorite stories. Happy writing! |
BabyGurl278 2006-11-11 . chapter 1Ahem...okay. First off I have finally read the entire one-shot. Whoohoo! When I first clicked on it, I was a little surprised at how long it was. With me being so busy, I wasn't able to read it all until now. So I'm glad to finish it.
First off, before I say anything I have to say that this was a very awesome one-shot. I must say. I'm not going to lie from the start you have pulled me and kept me hooked through the entire time. You have gotten a strong supporter of Malon/Link to feel so bad for this one-shot, and want to cry because of what had happened.
You're detail in this one-shot was unbelievable. You had great detail in this, and I could clearly picture everything that was going on, especially in the end.
I felt so bad that they both died, and I was more surprised that they both ended their lives. I can understand for Link, but Zelda's seriously surprised me. I didn't think she was going to just slit her throat all because of love.
It's so touching, yet so sad at the same time.
BKP, you did an excellent job with this one-shot and I'm so sorry that I took so long to review. I never knew what I was missing when I was reading this, and like I said before you made a Malon/Link fan want to cry because of it.
Once again, great job!
Keep up the good work!

Ralf Jones 2006-11-01 . chapter 1wow, good job, this is all your style, good job |
Sage of Downtown Hyrule 2006-10-27 . chapter 1Very wonderful writing as usual BKP. I'm sorry that my review came a bit late, but I could never really find a good time to sit down and read the story without any distractions.
As you said in the summary, this was indeed not our cliche fluffy fic, and it lived up to the name 'tragedy' with such emotion and grace, that I knew only BKP can write so clearly and discriptively.
Now, I don't know why you dedicate this to The Princess Zelda, and nor is it any of my business. But, she is an AMAZING writer, so, whatever your personaly reasons are, I know that she deserved this oneshot, because it's an breathtaking oneshot written by a magnificent writer, and dedicated to another.
Very good work, especially since you don't care for oneshots. I can tell that you put a lot of though into this, and I will always be looking out for more stories by you.

 Black Light Princess 2006-10-22 . chapter 1Nu! >_O
You... evil person, you! I thought she was gonna kill Link, not herself! Err... well yeah, I wanted her to kill him for some reason O_o So she'd end up insane and more dramatic and stuff.
Hyuk hyuk... didn't I tell ya I'd read? Be happy; I had to say bye to meh british smexy dude T.T
ANYWAY... the story...
Alright, so the end wasn't with Zeld cuh-razy like I wanted (XD), but it was still ok. I gotta say this though: GAMBLER LINK ROXXORZ.
Never thought hed go with that kind of things, but it was crazytastically awesome.
And... no MaLink for teh grand finale? Oh well... pity, but be it for the sake of drama.
And... hylians know what China is? AL-REET, MATE XD (yes I am talking british-y now)
I gotta return to Naruto Arena now *_* Keep rockin', BKP.
(20 bucks on that this is your less-serious, weirdest review) |
SnowCrystal 2006-10-22 . chapter 1I can't beleive I missed reading this! It was so beautiful :'(... I haven't heard of this opera before, actually. I think, despite it being orginally set in China, it's good in Hyrule because there's also a monarchy.
I also liked how Zelda was the concubine, since a concubine wasn't really the wife of the man, but really just someone on the side.
I thought the opera fitted quite well into the story, but I'm kinda confused. Is Zelda reading out the story and you tell it via the Zelda characters, or does the story actaully happen to Zelda? Other than that, I thought it was good ^_^! |
The Smash Artist 2006-10-21 . chapter 1"Farewell My Concubine" translated surprisingly well into the Hylian mythos. I'll have to say kudos, because it seemed to follow the original story, and because I've not seen the play in several years.
And I'll have to give my two cents' worth on the "meat" of the story. Her (Yu Ji / Zelda) suicide was always puzzling to me: what good is it dying for someone if doing so will only bring misery to that other person? But then, I believe that suicide is the ultimate betrayal, whether it be toward a love (significant other/sibling/family/friend) or a government. Nothing at all noble about it. War is just a little different, because a warrior may die in pursuit of a more noble goal (survival of the state).
Now that I've said that, I can climb down off my soap box. Just a quick question: how many extra lives did Link have? ;P |
Royal Kenya 2006-10-20 . chapter 1Well... I have a story for you. Ahem...
There once was a very cool princess authoress named Babykoalaprincess. She decided to put her heart, soul, love and devotion into her next piece of work called "Farewell My Princess"
Sometime after her work was complete, she posted the one-shot on for dedication to Princess Zelda. One day, she sends an instant message to another author named Lady Royal Kenya. She tells her how she posted something on
Royal Kenya says "What is it"
Babykoalaprincess says "Nevermind. Forget I said that."
But unfortunately it was too late for the princess authoress Babykoalaprincess to stop the other authoress Royal Kenya to discover what she is talking about. She confesses to the authoress about her new story on Zelda.
Quick as a rabbit Royal Kenya runs off to go read her story even though Babykoalaprincess did not want her too, thinking she wouldn't like it.
But Babykoalaprincess waited anxiously to hear the reply from the slow reader and reviewer Royal Kenya.
Lady Royal Kenya attempts to read it three times. The first time, she only got the first paragraph. Going into the next day she attempted to read it again at school. Illegally I must say. Sadly, she is only able to read about six paragraphs before the lunch bell rings.
Finally Royal Kenya goes home and immediately reads the story. Then she starts to write her review. And this is what it said.
"BKP!" she says in disbelief. "YOU MUST BE CRAZY TO THINK I WOULDN'T LIKE THIS!! IT'S WAY TOO FABULOUS!"
She goes on. "It would so beautiful and tragic! I felt like I was there the whole time watching these scenes bit by bit!"
She ends her review by saying. "This was one of the best Zelda/Link stories I have read! Keep on shinin gurl!"
So ended the review of Royal Kenya as she hit the "submit review" button.
So that was the tale of the lovely and majestic princess Babykoalaprincess and the excited and grinning from ear to ear authoress Lady Royal Kenya after reading her absolutely radient story!
What's the moral you ask? Eh...there isn't one. But...there is one more comment to say.
Babykoalaprincess Rocks!

LethalDuckie 2006-10-19 . chapter 1Wow... that was an awesome story. It's really emotional. I think I watched some version of the play a long time ago. I don't remember anything. ^^
Anyways, this is one of the best one-shots that I have read in a while. Great job.

The Princess Zelda 2006-10-19 . chapter 1Thank you! I really liked this story! It really did move me, I'm glad you dedicated it to me ^_^
haha! Now I REALLY gotta finish my chapter! XD |
Crystalicios 2006-10-19 . chapter 1I don't know why. But this really hit me so powerfully. I think this has been one of your greatest works. I love the way you depicted Zelda. Kind, forgiving. Link was described as foolish... but in the end, he was wise enough to stick with Zelda. It had such a sad ending, but it made me happy that they both knew that feelings existed between them.
You are an awesome authoress |
halomasterchief 2006-10-19 . chapter 1Wow...that's all I can say about this. Honestly BKP, this is one of the best, yet tragic, one-shots I've read in a long time. It's sort of a Romeo and Juliet kind of story, even though I know it's based off of a Chinese play. Um, what else? No spelling or grammer errors that I could find, and the flow of sentences is good too. Okay, well I gotta go. Again, fantastic one-shot, and I hope you do another one eventually!
-Chief
P.S: This gives me all the more reason to do my own one-shot, which I've been planning to do yet can never find the time to write it out. Maybe I should sometime... |
