This was really great. The manga never showed any indication of anyone telling Kaoru what happened in her absence. And Yahiko, oh Yahiko. I just realized how he treasures his teacher so much though he never shows any of it. I've always had this thing for fics portraying Kaoru as the one holding their surrogate family together. I'd really like to read more of this.

I'm too lazy to log in but this is amazing I'm sure I've read this before but the second time feels better somehow, familiar and warm this is one of the best interpretation of post-junchuu scenario, and well, I couldn't ask for more beautiful. I'd love to see more beautiful fics from you wonderful job.

i love this scene and I love how you reworked it. THose were things difficult to open up about and the tiny steps you made the characters take were just what they would probably do in the manga.)

i wouldn't understand why anyone would not tell her what enishi did. how else would she had been able to be a support to kenshin- and to kick the melancholy out of everybody's butts.

This is a beautiful and heartwrenching fic. Poor Yahiko, indeed. And I hope Kenshin is able to tell her, before too long. Very nice descriptions of the actions and feelings, and very emotionally touching too. (It was a three-kleenex fic for me.
The Kenshin-speak felt a little odd; translating the feel of it into English is hard, isn't it. I guess my take on it is that it's kind of archaic and indirect, but probably in a lower-class kind of way (he was born a peasant, after all). (I wrote a parody at one point in which he calls Kaoru 'milady,' but there's another story behind that too.
I found this on a friend's favorites, and am happy I did!

Oh wow. First fanfic? This is a masterpiece compared to my shitty 1st fic. Ugh. So jealous. You have such a way with words that I can only hope to have someday which basically means NEVER.

I like how you have Yahiko the impetus for breaking the soft stepping around Kaoru. I can imagine that Kenshin would pull in, and Sano would be trying for more or less casual normalcy. Yahiko showed such strength and maturity throughout the crisis. It makes sense that he would have to let that out at some point.
I loved the image of this torn and damaged family healing itself around the dinner table.
