Solipsism I.F. 2009-08-25 . chapter 1I always loved how, in the Nouda scene, Barty lies to Nathy about the wound. When I read that, I crowed to myself, "See?! He DOES care! Muhahaha!"
"This way, I may get to keep a master I’m starting to like for the few remaining years of his short life." That reminds me: Barty knew Ptolemy would die one day, and he still allowed himself to develop affection for him. Aww, love (platonic or otherwise) hurts, doesn't it, Barty?
Huh. Making him lose an arm was an original idea. I guess if he's going to face off against an ages-old omnipotent demon and win, he had better lose SOME limb, or he'll come across as, I dunno, God, or something. My great-uncle was born without an arm, and I still don't see how he manages...
"She's my girlfriend!" Lol.
EK! "Will you come to our wedding?" Aw. I'm sitting in my mother's office, and she keeps on looking over at me and saying, "You're making squeaking noises." This is why. This is so... fluffy. It makes me feel all warm and happy inside. Lol. Anyway, I can picture Barty being at the wedding and making some catastrophe happen, like the doves going into Kitty's veil or the minister having a book written in heiroglyphics, or something.
"Nat can read anything like it's written in English". Yes, that's our little Nattles, resident genius.
Finally, Barty gets to be free... ish. I'd be jumping for joy if, after 5 millenia of slavery, I knew I wouldn't be summoned again. Still, being in The Other Place seems a little boring, at least to me.
"might even have felt proud of the boy..." Aw! Barty, you do care! I love how Barty refers to him as "boy"; it just makes him seem really old, which he is.
Nathaniel as a dad just kind-of cracks me up, especially because he's just SO YOUNG. I mean, he acts quite old, but by Ptolemy's Gate, he's only seventeen. Ek! At least Kitty is older and has more sense, huh? I can picture Nathy trying to teach his five-year-old son or whatever how to, say, read Coptic or something, and freaking out in a very mellow way when he can't get it right. IDK. I'm not a parent and I don't plan to be one, and so...
Yes, Ptolemy's Gate was a very solemn ending. I don't think it would have been satisfying if he'd lived, though. I think the moral is supposed to be that if you're going to do a great thing you have to be prepared to die. Or something. Lol. What do I know?
Ek! You live in Japan. That's so far away (at least from where I live, the unbelievably hot state of South Carolina). Isn't it amazing how we can communicate like this? Lol. Still blows my mind every time. In any case, great fic, and I hope my review did you justice. :) Very fluffy and heart-warming. It helps sooth some of the RAGING ANGER I have towards Jonathan Stroud (okay, I admire the way he ended it, too), for PG. |
