Mm, re-reading this prompted me to review - I loved this.
Firstly, the part where raidou thinks about his dedication to Konoha - even if they don't know he's out there - speaks of his, and every Konoha nin's dedication and service, to Konoha, her Kage, and everything else. Their fighting spirit and resilience seems so real, I was moved.

The reckless abandon of desperate will to go on fighting is also great - so apt of Raidou. His wariness when he sees/hears Suzume, too, speaks volumes of what has been endured in the war, and life.

And when they approach the camp, Saitou's facial changes - so wonderfully detailed, really, deliciously put details like this made this a great read. The atmosphere, I guess, was set real well.

And even the phrasing of the message - The dispatch of Jiraiya and the Yellow Flash - put together, along with Saitou's way of speaking/announcing the news, was really cool, it sent this lil' tingle through me, because it was, like, too perfectly set a scene. I really enjoy reading these kind of oneshots, because you've made every scene fit ever so nicely, every one is a joy/heartwrench to read. These little insights into their world, as usual, make fandom all the more enjoyable.

Loved this!

I loved the interaction between Raidou and Suzume. They both seemed very real in your story. You've done a great job intertwining the brutality of war with hope. And the wording was simply superb. Thank you for writing it.

How lovely. You take all the heart wrenching-ness of war and death and somehow manage to mix it with all these sweet little moments where Suzume's character just shines through. I love your Raidou - completely different from how I play him, but deliciously so. Sad and sweet...such prettines, gah. You are evidently made of awesome.

Thank you so much for this, Ki! I love it! Suzume's character is perfectly matched to how I play her in spiral (and the added edge in her is just perfect for the war) and I love Rai's internal, so-rational-it's-irrational dialogue and doubts. The descriptions are, as always, top notch and dragged me right in to that muddy forest!

Awh... just thanks, Ki! *biggest grin*

This is a lovely, moving, almost delicate portrait of the brutality of war, and the hope that lingers nevertheless. I really enjoyed Raidou's sudden realization that maybe he's just given things away to an enemy, and the way Suzume comes back to that. Their responses to the overwhelming losses Konoha has suffered here are sobering and realistic. I liked Saito, too, he seems like a good man, a good commander. Raido's realization that Saito is really only a few years older than himself is a telling one.

Anyway, lovely work, as always from you.
