at first i wasn't fond of the whole "let's focus on ein" idea but you made it work. brilliant and unique story, great work.

This is an excellent story. I enjoyed Ein's past as well as the scenes with Spike - you write him very well. The scenes with the dogs reminded me of We3.

Funny how the real gems on this site get so few reviews. This is one of the best fics I've read in a while. The characters were spot on, and Ein's story was an amazing creation. And Ed! Dear, adorable Ed. Fantastic ending. Poetic, brutal, lovely. Loved it. :)

Tell me, do you watch the TV show House often? I'd swear Barleigh is the futures version of him.

i have to admit that when I read the summary, I thought this story would suck, but ... it was soo touching. All the characters were believable, and Ein became something much more than just the dog. Good job!

Wow. This story is amazing. I can't believe you wrote something like this during the craze of nano. I laughed, I cried, I absolutely loved it. You gave Ein such an amazing role and a deep look into his past that added to him as a character. The way the flashbacks were placed left me wanting more. Sometimes I get annoyed with things like that but with this I was waiting for the next one. I really like the other dogs too, they added a lot. This is most certainly going on my favorites list. Congratulations on finishing nano '06!

So, Ein was keeping a grandfatherly watch over the Bebop crew? I certainly wouldn't have picked it from the series!

Wow! Dramatic! So intense! You are such a good writer! No wonder this story won an award! I can't wait to see what happens next!

I'm certainly impressed. I totally read the entire thing in one big fanfiction binge last night at three in the morning. I'll break my opinion down:

The good:
Unique perspective, engaging dialogue, nice blends of past and present, everyone generally stayed in-character, the song quotes/story titles were great, and the literary/pop culture references were awesome.

The bad:
Not much, really. There were one or two things that bugged me, though. For one, I'm probably the only person who didn't appreciate the House reference- I just kind of felt ripped off for some reason. Acknowledging it in the author's notes or something would probably would have remedied that.

The cursing became worthy of eye-rolling at one or two points. Some parts of the dogs' dialogue would end with the word 'fuck' just for good measure. I want to say that was around the sixth chapter or so.

And the doctors and the rest of the hospital staff tended to blur together when they spoke. Occasionally, it would be hard to tell who was speaking, and sometimes even harder to care what they were saying because their speech was so long-winded.

And that about sums it up. Not a story to forget by any means. My favorite line was when Ein first tried communicating with Spike- "Yes, I'm fucking talking to you in your fucking head...etc." That was priceless.

One of the most intrigueing aspects of this story was that Ed was absent from most of the story. I don't think I've ever seen a Bebop fic focusing on one without the other, as far as Ed and Ein are concerned. Anyway, this story is going on my favorite's list. Great job.

This was an excellently written story and I really don't have much more than that to say about it, heh.
I absolutely love that you let Ein into the spotlight, and the ending was so bittersweet, it was fantastic.
You really delved into Spike's mind, and I liked that you made him seem more real, more...alive I suppose, thanks to Ein. Awesome fic!
p.s. the House references were awesome

Ein is so good, I wish I had a dog like that! I'm glad he saved Spike's life and maybe Spike will be much more closer to the dog.
