Wowsers, this is good writing! You made Chichiri come alive!

What a terrific character study of Chichiri. I especially liked the analogy of Chichiri continuing to walk upstream even as the swirling depths of the river tempt him to end his misery. It struck me that he's rather like a human salmon, battling the brutal currents of life to fulfill his ultimate purpose.

I wondered as I read if he's realized at this point that he's a warrior of Suzaku? I'm thinking that he may be on the edge of discovering his gift, rather than in full awareness of it. It seems as if it won't be long until he finds out, because he's clearly feeling the pull of a certain holy mountain...^^
