Setting the story around a pack of cigarettes was ingenious. It’s the first original idea I’ve seen in a very long time.

I loved the fact that David refused to give up on Jack. Anyone else would have given up after the first few weeks.

Your descriptions were especially good in this story:

“He could actually see the way those blue eyes would cloud over, the way they always did when he was sad, and the way his lower lip would stick out a little bit, even when no one was looking. God, the things that face could make Jack do...”

“Jack rubbed his hands over his face with a sniff, trying to pass off the stinging in his eyes as smoke lingering in the air. There was no one there to see it, but still, Jack Kelly did not cry. It just didn't happen.”

Great Javid Bruce Willis, and Die Hard in one story. Throw in the cigarettes and I’ll be smiling for hours.

Pennylayne, you're stories never cease to leave me astounded. You have, like, this ability to pack so much dry humor and emotion into a one shot that's short of 30 words. I don't know how you do it, but it's stunning.

Okay. Whereohwhere to start. Geez, I don't know. Let's just say I was enraptured with Jack's personality and obsession with Die Hard. That was great. And, just, wow, I loved it.
