I just started watching the episodes I missed when the series first ran and watched this episode last night. Loved the interaction between Trip and Reed - especially the line about Malcolm having feelings for Hayes.

Hope to Reed more. ;-)

Ha! Loved it! the talk between Reed and Tucker! You filled in a missing scene after that spectacular fight between Hayes and Reed! Good job!

This is highly interesting and entertaining. Lovely 'social comment' on our favorite pair of Starfleet officers. I like that it is written with so much humour without trivializing or devaluing the subject matter.

The first point is how quickly Trip swings from angry to amused when he realises what has happened, then shifts once again to concern when he realises that his friend is really hurting. It mirrors the shift in Malcolm's attitude, from annoyed and stressed to conspiring to obey a 'fake' order, when he realises Trip is also hurting. Trip's comment about bruises not always being visible is very true.

Second is the insights they are able to give each other into their respective situations. A classic case of having a better perspective from outside a situation than inside of it. Friendships like this are a good release from tension. And goodness knows, they have enough of that to contend with.

Is good to see them back to their normal selves at the end of the story, winding each other up and having a coded conversation in the same turbolift as the person they are secretly refering too. LOL

Great story Daniela. The episode would have been even better with this ending. :) I like it how they comforted each other. Trip is very understanding but I don't think he can understand Malcolm's feelings completely. I'd just want to see him if another engineer came aboard Enterprise and tried to tell him how to treat his engines.

Sorry for the late feedback to this wonderful story. I loved how you used the events of "Harbinger" to have a guy-talk between Malcolm and Trip, with just the right amount of true emotional impact injected. At first, I was a little confused by your remark of a humorous story, worrying that you were going to make fun of Trip's hurt, but I guess I needn't have worried. Trip's point of view worked perfectly IMO, and served to bring in just the right amount of humour while at the same time conveying the depth of his feelings and concern. I enjoyed greatly how he got Malcolm to talk to him, and Malcolm's reactions were entirely believable and fitting for a close friend - the confessing part as well as the part where he helps Trip deal with his hurt. Another wonderful part was when Trip's mouth once again worked faster than his brain, involuntarily redirecting Malcolm's focus to himself, and Malcolm virtually pinned him down. And I also liked the turbolift scene with T'Pol, very nice little addition and a perfect ending. I could practically watch these scenes playing out in my mind - so much so that I don't even regret we weren't shown anything like this in the show, because it couldn't have been better than this! Thanks you for this lovely fic.

OMG - you are so not going to believe this: I just watched for the very first time today the episode, Harbinger. For one hour I was thrilled to see a Malcolm-centric story (there are far too few IMO. Then later I go over to FFnet. and there is this lovely story by you! Then I was thrilled all over again because this was such the perfect tag for the episode.

The give and take between Trip and Malcolm angst was just so delicious, interesting and went along briliantly with the canon episode. LOL - since this is fanfiction, I'll tell you my theory/wish: I think the REAL reason Malcolm and Hays don't get along is because each is interested in the other, but don't have the nerve to say it. I sure would like to read a story where THAT issue gets resolved! ; )

I really enjoyed this story. It fleshed out some of the scenes from Harbinger and added to Trip and Malcolm's friendship. I was disappointed with that episode (particularly with Trip and T'Pol's "experimental" hook-up) so this made it better!

That was a fan-bloody-tastic story, I have to admit though I didn't get through it all in one sitting as I kept having to disappear to go on stage and perform lol.

But thanks for a great story that made the waiting to go on stage a lot less boring :)

Volley thank you for sharing your story. I enjoy the frienship shown between Malcolm and Trip in your story and confiding in each other. About their troubles and frustrations Hayes and Reedhad some valid points. I liked the mention of Shuttlepod and Trip talking about his growing attraction to T'Pol nice to see Malcolm knew all along the attraction these two had with each other. And about Amanda and T'Pol's jealousy well done . I liked this story alot. well written addition to Harbinger

I liked this, good old memories! But wasnt Hayes the one with the bruised kidney and Reed had the Detached retina, or am i wrong? its happened before...
