That was a really sweet story.

I loved the confusion and mistaken motives about their talk. That sort of delicious befuddlement was right in line with Kenshin's relationship with Kaoru in the anime and the kiss on the cheek at the end was a bonus for both the readers and for Kaoru.

Cliche, you say? Maybe the misunderstanding part... but the kimono part doesn't seem cliche to me, rather an intriguing story idea.

For some reason I actually found this rather sad. Poor Kaoru, waiting and waiting for any kind of response from Kenshin. And poor Kenshin, so painfully shy behind that wall of his. It makes me want to hug them both.

I like the way you ended it, describing Kaoru's startled squeak before saying what it was that had elicited it!

I thought this was sweet but also a very interesting characterization. I thought it was insightful that Kenshin's response to realizing what Kaoru may have expected was one of near panic. I really liked that line, "There were things he needed to accept about himself before subjecting anyone else to them." I would love to see a series of these progressing through their relationship.
