How about this...?
Ed and Al... er... they hang around the mansion and do crazy and random schtick with the mutants, like... they teach Ed about the technology of this time period. They introduce Ed to computers, maybe to YouTube, and Ed is so frightened (of course Al is equally as startled, but he does a better job of hiding it) that he punches the computer into oblivion and so forth.
I'm sorry, but it's summer, and I'm not feeling imaginative...

hmm well his memorys could be taken by the gate as a price for coming here and he keeps losing them b/c the gate keeps coming back to take them again ...you sould have a verry angstsy scean were all sees the gate and eds screaming and then when he wakes up he doesntremember anything

also maybe you could have that is they go back to were they came in to this world and do alchimy there that they can go back though i think you would have to have a price...

Someone else is kidnapped
Ed helps some other mutants pull a prank
Some of the teen mutants take Ed and Al to the town (there's one near by, right?)
Katie drag Ed and/or Al to the mall

Ok, lets see confirming this, you are going by the FMA manga and the X-men movies. There are several other kids Ed and Al's ages if you read New X-men: Academy X. There is a girl, Noriko Ashida, who looks like she had metal arms. Look her up on the marvel wikia and try to read the books.

i like the school dance idea.
though i hate to see poor lil Al angst it up, but its always awsome when Ed feels awkward lol. hehe.

No Romance is a good idea. I'll PM you with ideas, but I need to re-read the story first. Romance makes things SOO much more complicated, and, well... difficult to write stories do not need any more aspects of difficulty added.
