I'm sorry to read on your profile that you're giving up on HP fan fiction, having just now discovered your H/Hr trove. Still, if you were feeling pessimistic about things BEFORE the horror that was 'Deathly Hallows' was released, I don't want to consider what you felt afterwards. If you read the final book of the series. (If you didn't - don't! :))

I intend to read more of your stories over time; for now I've only read this one, 'Duty'. A nice treatment of Hermione and her most sterling characteristic, how she's *always* stood by Harry. I also liked the 'Lily sacrifice' plan that she seemed to be contemplating as a last resort to save him.

However ... I dunno. I could see how someone could possibly convince Hermione that - for the *first time* - it might be better for Harry - and hence for everyone - for her to stay behind. If we/she saw proof, knew for real, that Harry might go to pieces if Hermione fell in battle.

Like he did at the end of book 5, in the battle at the Department of Mysteries.

I've read a story where Neville sat down with Hermione and told her how Harry completely went apart - how he *froze* - when she was felled by Anatov's curse (a good story for that one scene, not crash hot otherwise). If Tonks was serious here she could have used that bit of canon evidence ... and I don't know if Hermione would have had a good counter. As it is in your story a lot of what she says is "I - I - I"; possibly selfishness on her part.

But a nice idea/story none the less. I just can't help thinking of how it could be expanded, become a real character study of conflicting urges in Harry's best friend. Cheers!

Nice, not spectacular, but nice. May want to add some more background and flesh out the story a bit though.

Although I'll admit, I like Ginny so long as she's not paired with Harry. I mean, why would he want some girl that had had a crush on him for being the boy-who-lived when she was younger. sorry, getting off topic. Anyway, I really like this and most of your other stories (haven't read them all yet).

Hah, I do like this version much better than the other one. I read Duty to Him first and I was kinda annoyed at it since I thought that Hermione was WAY out of character. SHe was much more liek herslf in this one. I love the line "the last time Vlodie faced sowna woman that loved Harry..." that was too good. I also love the barking mad part. What Ron saif made me laugh out loud. Thank for this. Til later readings

I agree about the loathing H/G thing first of all. Second of all, very good, though I would've loved if Tonks had been serious. It would've been hilarious seeing her reaction when Hermione stood up to her. Ah well, still an awesome story as per usual.
