Well, really, the last sentence of the first paragraph is more a sentence fragment than a full sentence. I'd suggest putting a semi-colon in place of the period behind "everywhere" and just extending that sentence. Too, you've a mis-spelling of "gold" as "hold".

As a side note, I noticed several spots with homonym problems or spelling errors. If you want, I'd be glad to do beta-edits of both chapters for you.

The basic story is enjoyable, though, and 'twas a pleasure to read.
