I liked this. Interaction between Kaoru and Aoshi that's deep yet light enough not to feel oppressive is rare in the RK fandom of fanfiction, and this was done very nicely as well. You lent understanding to Aoshi and wisdom to Kaoru when the case isn't always so for a lot of the fanfics out there. I can definitely respect that. I'm not certain about the long speech Kaoru made; I find it a bit hard to picture, but when it comes to grief, it's likely possible that such a speech is capable of being said naturally. Aoshi falling asleep half-way through... well, I just liked that. Such a gesture, no matter how tired Aoshi might have been, showed quite a bit of trust in Kaoru and also showed a sort of innocent side of him. I really enjoyed that bit.

There were a few minor mistakes grammar-wise somewhere in the middle of the fic that had me rereading the sentence again to grasp. But that could just be my inner grammar-Nazi being persnickety about such things. I hope to see more from you soon. Keep writing and good luck with future works!

Wonderful fic. I'll not worry about how she could find the graves since Aoshi buried them in some sort of "oni" forest. The story rests on the understanding between two people who understand loss and loneliness. I really enjoyed the way you connected them.

One nitpick is the sentence near the end that starts with "No one could say how long she managed to stay awake..." It's a bit jarring as a change in narrative style. Kind of like a shift into a Christmas special. "No one could say where the magic came from..." The paragraph stands without it but then we'd lose her listening to his breathing so you could cut the top and get "Her muscles began to relax as she listened carefully to the rhythmic breathing of a nearby slumbering Aoshi." or some such. I know you wrote this a while ago and might not want to revise it, but I wanted to point out the sudden shift in tone.

Nicely thought up and written. Aoshi and Kaoru make as unlikely a pair as Aoshi and Misao.

That was simply beautiful. This is truly an example of why I ship these two characters. They both were both individual characters, and yet they resonated with each other so well. A marvelous job at writing, at keeping the characters so true to form… and at subtly drawing these two together in such a way I’d bribe you with cookies for more (if virtual cookies tasted anything like homemade ones that is).

This has truly turned into one of my favorites. You wouldn’t happen to be thinking of writing more in this story line, or with these two characters as the main players are you? *crosses fingers and hopes the response is a yes*
