This promises to be interesting even without romance, but that could easily add a nice plot to it.

Okay. Well, good luck. I like just this one chapter enough, I'm gonna try to review for each of your following chapters. (:

Very interesting so far! I like it and it's always nice to see someone go out and try to attempt a large scale story like this that is going to include the entire ship and crew for the most part. And you have the characters right on the mark too. Myself I tend to write around Spock since I have more trouble with attempting to be logical or intelligent in any fashion, besides I think Kirk as well as McCoy are just as intriguing as any Vulcan! So I give you kudo's on that mark! I'm always tickled to find someone else jumping into these kinds of stories with gusto, and trying to create their own characters. It seems to be a dying art at times in espeically in Star Trek TOS from time to time, so I also give you much kudos on that as well!

and the idea of romance abrewin' is also intriguing. But with whom? McCoy or Spock or someone else?? Hm, and how is dear old daddy gonna take it when he finds out??

But only one thing. You might mention the time period this takes place. I'm going on the assumption that it has to be after Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, since Kirkis a Captain again, and in the show he was in his early 30's when he became Captain of the 'Enterprise', and if Caitlan is 22 that would cause some problems.

but what also intrigues me is the fact that if does take place after the fourth movie is that by now Kirk has known about David and David is now dead, how is he going to treat a daughter? You have alot going on here, in one single chapter (which believe me is not a short chapter by a long ways) which I really love! I love plots with more plots and more plots! You can tell that in my own writing.
