 Trishkafibble 2007-10-16 . chapter 1Beautiful. |
 Designation 2007-09-28 . chapter 1Holy crap. What a ... mindblowing fic. Truly ... captivating? Amazing? Perfect? |
Janiqua 2007-02-03 . chapter 1Actually, a lot of scientists do believe in intelligent design, from what I hear. Life on earth is just too much of a coincidence, if you ask me. If our planet was any closer to the sun, it would burn up. If it was any farther away, it would freeze over. Or something like that... For us to exist, everything has to be so exact... so perfect... that even a lot of scientists agree it couldn't have just happened on accident. Of course, McKay's McKay. You wrote him very well. Perfectly in character. Great job! |
Derry 2007-01-22 . chapter 1I've always adored the way you write Zelenka and McKay, and I'd have loved this story anyway, on the basis of it being another example of that wonderful characterisation.
But you tackled a difficult and controversial subject wonderfully - without fear, without insult (except for the in character McKayish kind), without cliche and without the need to provide "answers" (because the unanswered is really the point, in some ways). This fic was just beautiful from start to finish.
I am, once again, in awe. |
ganainm 2007-01-21 . chapter 1This is really quite good. |
NenyaVilyaNenya 2007-01-17 . chapter 1I applaud you for taking this subject and applying it so well to the characters. It's an absolutely fascinating read. |
 Sepik 2007-01-17 . chapter 1You. Pwn. Fanfiction.
I LOVE THIS STORY SO MUCH.
It reflects some of my own views of faith, which makes me instantly like it.
But you kept them so in character with such a difficult subject.
I'm amazed.
AWESOME! :D |
 Laurie 2007-01-15 . chapter 1 interesting perspective... |
NotTasha 2007-01-15 . chapter 1Wow! What a cool story. I love how you write Radek and Rodney. Such great insight into their characters. Great story |
 krysalys 2007-01-15 . chapter 1Wow. Absolutely fantabulous.
So eagerly awaiting the rest of Season 3. Just to see this episode.

skypig21 2007-01-15 . chapter 1What a great piece. Two brilliant physicists discuss the meaning of spirituality and the possible existence of the hereafter. (Oh, to be fly on the wall in their lab. Seriously.)
Faith is challenged by two things: science and despair. It is fitting that Radek, a more sensitive person to begin with and one for whom you have given a fairly dense religious background, would ponder the affect on his near-death experience from a religious angle.
It goes the other way round, as well. Rodney is not a man of faith, and it seems as if he uses science as a way to avoid messing with the subject entirely. I won't even go into despair, right now, because that could take pages and pages.
Your stories always get me blabbing on. Sorry! I'm very happy that you found time to post this. It's lovely. |
 Lucygoosey 2007-01-15 . chapter 1Excellent! I especially like the last line. |
Sholio 2007-01-15 . chapter 1This is absolutely WONDERFUL. An honest discussion of faith is something that we rarely get in fiction, any fiction; the most that is usually seen is the cliche of the "inspirational" conversion. Radek's terror at having seen "nothing" when he died was very real and poignant, and their discussion about faith, and science, and the divide between (or not) rang very true, both for the characters and for similar discussions that take place all the time in dorm rooms, living rooms, hospitals and many other places between family and friends confronting and challenging their own beliefs and each other's. Also, I think you're the first author I've seen who's confronted the direct parallel of both these characters having near-death experiences in the same episode. (It hadn't even occurred to me until reading this story, actually.)
And underlying it all, the heartfelt friendship hidden by layers of sarcasm and bite -- and, having had it all laid bare in the episode, the way they have to feel their way back to how things used to be.
Excellent story. |
