I'm not a great fan of rhyming poetry, but this one turned out all right. I like the paragraph at the end the best. You're a gifted poet.

I don't see this as country — it's more like a folk ballad. I can definitely see it set to music, though. One tempo and feel for the chorus (more of a chant), one for the bridge, and one for everything else. You could do great things with this, though I'm willing to bet if you set it to music you'd end up changing a few things in the lines to make it all work better.

I'm a little confused whether the prose at the end is pre-powers, post-powers, or AU though... But knowing you that might be deliberate.
