Reviews for: Forgotten Children
the cool kids
2007-07-27 . chapter 1
hallo! guess who is your secret reviewerr.. mee. sorry to ruin the secret. i am pretty excited about the matchup, though, as it gives me a chance/excuse to track down all the stuff you've written that i've not read yet. like this!
"that was my good deed for the week"
i think we're all guilty of this, though it seems so much more.. unacceptable, i guess.. written out.
two things in this story really stood out for me. the first was this line -
"..I noticed something I never had before. Everywhere I looked were children just like Mud." (and the rest of the paragraph)
because it's a reminder of what the girl is (was) after you kind of forget, and because it's a succinct summary of her transformation - and you need something quick and effective like just a sentence or a paragraph when the story is so short.
the second thing was the last bit, the words on the plaque. even without the story, they are just heartbreaking. it's the perfect way to end this, anything else would have been.. i don't know. corny? trivializing? this is perfect.

Wow.

That was amazing.

It's very rare to find a well-written fic that is realistic and focuses on the truth of New York City. As much as we love the way the city is portrayed in Newsies, it wasn't all singing and dancing and this story shows that.

You characterized Mud perfectly - the bitterness was evident and really hit home.

And the plaque at the end was a perfect way to finish the story.

Awesome job, Rogue. Seriously.

That was just astounding. That quote. The whole fic wrenched my heart and I really got teary-eyed, almost cried. Wow. Just amazing.

Okay, you win. This short fic really touched me, because I saw that picture of this boy but never thought about him too in depth. You gave a still some LIFE. I'm impressed.

This is awesome and really moving. I have a guess as to which newsie you added in, not that is matters or effects the fic, but I guess Mush.

I'm trying to think of some way of saying I liked this without sounding stupid. It was sad, but it was uplifting, sort of like Les Miserables. Does that make sense? Well, I liked it a lot. It was... unable to be described by any word in my vocabulary.
