congrats on excellent characterization. Something that is extremly rare in Norribeth fics. Most tend to just disregard that they have known each other for eight years, or that Eliabeth did count him a friend and good husband material. Her first reaction to him in DMC is to jump to his aid in a tavern brawl. She says herself in cotbp that he's what every woman should dream of marrying, her problem is that she doesn't think of him that way, and that "Now that Will Turner he's a fine man too." Some authors have gone so far as to have her refer to him as a stranger, which I find extremly annoying. Jack Davenport said in the commentary on cotbp that the longstanding nature of Norrington's relationship with Elizabeth was the only thing that gave his character any sort of depth at all.
You've tapped into to difficulty of the situation without making Elizabeth a drama queen or Norrington too stiff and reserved around her. Having been friends for eight years they are comfortable enough around each other to have an actual fight, rather than just some quite angsty scene.
And now since you asked for ideas and not just compliments another thing i found annoying in some norribeth fics, besides the characterization, is that their marriage starts out strained, but then is a completely linear climb to sunshine and roses, rather than with both progress and backsiding along the way.
please update soon the characterization in this fic is a rare gem.

Mm, I do hope you continue this! I loved Elizabeth's outburst in this chapter as well as James' lines...so far very much in character.

Being a die-hard Norry fan, I have to say I liked this quite a bit. Although still short at only two (small) chapters, what we've seen of James and Elizabeth is quite canon. I was especially tickled pink by the last line:

"...you may want to begin preparing the guest bedroom...I suspect I may be in need of it tonight."

It opens up the next chapter for a bit of that good ol' marriage make-up argument, in a humorus way too!
